Aaron Dee Phelps, Jr., the only child born to Aaron and Mary (Brake) Phelps passed from this life on November 29, 2009 at the age of 82. Dee was born August 27, 1927 in Dallas, Texas.
The family soon moved to Huntsville, Texas where Dee attended his first eleven years of school. He received his high school diploma while serving in the United States Navy. During his tour of duty he achieved the rank of Machinist Mate 3/C. After discharge from the Navy Dee furthered his education at the University of Houston, attending for two years.
On October 16, 1948 Dee was united in marriage to Miss Cecelia Oakes. They were blessed with the birth of their two daughters, Donna and Cathy. The family made their home for a time in Houston, Canadian, and Agua Dulce, Texas. Dee later moved to Higgins where he was living at the time of his passing.
Dee was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Higgins. He served his church as a Deacon, song leader, Sunday school teacher and choir director. He always enjoyed being in fellowship with his church family.
Dee's lifetime career was working as a Gas Measurement Technician for Transwestern Pipeline Company for 32 years. He liked to spend his free time in a good antique store or searching out Indian artifacts. He enjoyed being outdoors hunting and fishing or just taking a long walk. He made many memorable trips to Colorado to see the fall foliage. He also found much pleasure in building and refinishing furniture.
Family members preceding Dee in death are his loving wife of 55 years, Cecelia Phelps and his father, Aaron Dee Phelps, Sr and mother, Mary Owens. Those remaining to cherish his memory are daughters, Donna Bailey of Durango, Colorado and Cathy Vincent of Moore, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Steffanie Vincent of Norman, Oklahoma, Miranda Bailey Wagner of Durango, Colorado; great-grandchild, Cole Evertt Wagner and an additional soon-to-arrive great-grandchild as well as a lifetime of friends.
