Alan was born to Albert Frazee Meyer and Grace Beatrice (Stephenson) Meyer on May 26 th , 1943 in Elk City, Okla., the youngest of four children. At that time, they were residing at their farm in Webb, where Alan grew up helping his father break horses, farming with mules and draft horses, then small tractors, hoeing and picking cotton, and tending to the farm animals. Those experiences led Alan to be a lifelong talented horseman. He went to grade school at Webb Elementary School, Midwest City Junior High School, and then attended and graduated from Camargo High School in 1961. Alan and Linda began dating in March of 1961, and by the end of the summer, they were engaged. That fall, Alan began working at the Burnett Ranch near Manchester, Okla., near where his sweetheart, Linda Cole, was attending college in Alva.
On December 4 th , 1961, Alan enlisted in the United States Air Force. The next summer, on June 3 rd , 1962, Alan and Linda were united in marriage at the Camp Creek Nazarene Church. Shortly after, Alan received his assignment to be stationed in Anchorage, Alaska, where the newly-weds were moved to by the fall of 1962. On February 10, 1964, they welcomed their first daughter, Ladeana. On March 25 th , 1964, they survived the Great Alaskan Earthquake. Next, Alan and Linda were stationed at James Conley Air Force Base in Waco, Texas after making the 4,000 plus-mile journey from Alaska, across Canada on the AL-CAN dirt winding road, with 10-month-old Ladeana. Happy to be closer to home, they welcomed their second daughter, Pamela, on September 28 th , 1965. During this military service, Alan was stationed overseas in Thailand, and served forays in Vietnam and Cambodia with the Red Horse unit specializing in heavy equipment construction and engineering. Following an injury, he was transferred to Lackland AFB in San Antonio, TX., and later transferred to Clinton-Sherman Air Force Base (Strategic Air Command), in Burns Flat, Okla. Two occasions he had TDY in Okinawa. Following eight years of service, Alan was honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force on December 4 th , 1969. The family then moved to Woodland Park, Colo., where he worked as a diesel mechanic before starting his own excavation business. To be closer to family, they moved home to Camargo, Okla., in 1973. Alan was a very hardworking, talented man, with skills in many areas. He worked as a mechanic, derrick hand on oil rigs, and heavy equipment operator, all while growing their family farming operation. In July of 1977, began his career with Mobile Oil. On March 3 rd , 1979 they welcomed their son Frank Meyer. Alan worked in the Oil and Gas Industry, in multiple capacities for many years. Following his retirement from Mobile Oil, he pursued his love of travel by becoming a cross country trucker, and later returned to the oil patch working as a gas compression mechanic. In 2003, Alan fully retired to the farm. His great joys in life were going to his grandkids' activities, working on the farm, hunting, fishing, shooting, riding horses, playing pitch and dominoes, and traveling the United States with his wife, Linda. He especially enjoyed several trips across central and eastern United States to reconnect with his fellow Air Force Veterans, and two return summer visits to Alaska. Throughout the many experiences and travels, they made great friends everywhere they went. He was found to enjoy a good laugh of past escapades, and bundles of smiles to share while picking on you. His character and integrity was firm and he always stood for what he believed was right.
Alan and Linda attended Vici Nazarene Church, where he reconfirmed his faith in Jesus Christ and enjoyed cooking for church functions. He was a member of the American Legion, The South Canadian Neighbors Association, and was a Master Mason and enjoyed the Vici Lodge #465.
