Anna Mae Sweet passed from this life September 19, 2018 at the age of 95 years. She was born on June 14, 1923 east of Vici to Fred and Orpha (Dickey) Schamburg. She grew up in Vici, OK where she graduated high school with the Class of 1940. On September 19, 1942, she married Arnold Sweet in Taloga, OK and to this union three children, Saundra, Neil, and Gary were born. Early in their marriage, Anna Mae and Arnold lived in Washington and California, then, moving back to Oklahoma, they lived in the Sharon, Vici, and Griever Canyon areas. In 1953, they established their home in Enid, OK where they lived for over 30 years. Upon retirement in 1984, she moved to the family farm NE of Vici.
Anna Mae balanced a successful career with an intense love of family and a deep sense of spirituality. She began her accounting career in 1954 as a bookkeeper at the Enid State School. From 1956 to 1984 she progressed from office manager to general manager of several auto dealerships in Enid, OK. Family was the highlight of Anna Mae's life. She loved entertaining family and friends, especially during the Holidays. Those who shared time in the warmth of her home made many fond memories. Everyone enjoyed hours of fun, games, love and nurturing in her home. Anna Mae was a member of the Vici First Christian Church and enjoyed serving her church in numerous roles. She was a devoted Christian who spent time in the word everyday.
Anna Mae and Arnold loved traveling. In 1984, they enjoyed a month traveling across Europe. They had the opportunity to spend time in Germany with their niece, Sherry Mayes, and then embarked on a train tour across Europe. Later that year, they attended the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles CA. She also traveled with her daughter, Saundra, to Germany and Switzerland to study the Schamburg genealogy.
In addition to her parents, Anna Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold; daughter, Saundra Lauppe; brothers J.D. and Loyd (Skeet) Schamburg; twin infant grandsons; and a great-great grandson; 7 sisters-in-law and 8 brothers-in-law.
Left to carry on her legacy are Anna Mae's two sons Neil and wife Patty Sweet, of Vici, OK; Gary and wife Teresa Sweet, of Woodward, OK; 9 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren; 2 sisters-in-law; 1 brother-in-law and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Memorial donations in Anna Mae's honor may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America or the charity of your choice at Shaw Funeral Home, serving as custodian for the funds.
