IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Anne
Cole
January 3, 1927 – February 21, 2020
Winnifred "Anne" Gloria Anne Cole, 93-year-old former resident of Gage, OK, passed from this life on February 21, 2020 in Edmond, OK. Anne was born in Ellis County, 12 miles north and west of Gage, OK on January 3, 1927. She was the fifth child born to Homer and Bertha Anne Richardson. She also had two half-sisters and they wanted to name the new baby, and so did her mother. Anne ended up with the name Winnifred Gloria Anne Richardson, which was a problem for her because every form you have to fill out there is no room for that many names. She was raised on the farm. In 1937 the country school was transferred to Gage and as a shy county girl going into the fifth grade everything was rather scary. When class took up the first day, the teacher told the class for them to write their shortest name on a piece of paper and the number of your desk. As she wasn't going to call people by two names, Mary Jane as an example, Gloria at that time sent in Anne and has been known as Anne ever since. She graduated from Gage High School and married Harold Ralph Cole, this was during World War II, to this union four sons were born Harold Ralph Jr., Allen Dale, and twins Donald Floyd and Ronald Lloyd.
After all the boys were in school Anne went to work for the Dry Cleaners of Gage. Shortly after chiropractor Dr. C.L. Meyers moved into Gage. She went to work for Dr. Meyers and worked there for 20 years. Her husband Harold preceded her in death in October 19, 1990. Anne was a member of the First Christian Church of Gage for many years. She served as deacon, deaconess, and secretary during her lifetime there in the church. After Harold passed away, she became active in the Gage Senior Citizens and served as vice president and treasurer. She also helped deliver meals on wheels for several years.
Harold and Anne always had a garden. Anne continued to keep the garden after her husband died but on a smaller scale. She loved to grow watermelons and gave them away. Anne enjoyed her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren very much and tried to stay involved with their lives as much as was possible.
Anne is survived by her four sons Ralph Cole and wife June of Tampa, FL, Dale Cole and wife Dedra of Oxford, FL, Don Cole and wife Tracey of Edmond, OK, and Ron Cole and wife Sherrie of Gage, OK; 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, extended family and a host of friends.
