Arlene Moss Boyd was born February 7, 1935 to Elmer and Verla Cunningham Moss on the Updyke farm near Vici, OK. She departed this life on March 9, 2010 at her home near Vici, OK. She was welcomed to the family by her older brother Duane and was later joined by her brother Allen and sister Arlinda.
Arlene was raised on three different farms in the Vici community and attended grade school at Pleasant Ridge. She then went to high school at Vici and graduated in 1953.
In January of 1954, she flew from Oklahoma City, OK to Fairbanks, AK where she married Wayne Boyd. Wayne had been her long time boyfriend and now was her husband. They married on January 16, 1954 when he was a soldier stationed in Alaska. This union lasted over 56 years until her death. After his military duty was completed, they lived in Oklahoma City where Wayne became a barber and Arlene was a beautician and housewife. To this union sons Mitch and Russ were born on March 26, 1956 and March 7, 1959 respectively. They were both baptized into the General Assembly and Church of The Firstborn. Brother Wayne was baptized by Brother Kenneth Herring of Oklahoma City and Sister Arlene by Brother Jud Poulson of Vici on December 28, 1958. She continued faithfully to her death and fought a good fight, finished her course, and kept the faith.
In 1967, they moved back home to "Green Acres" near Vici. Later they built a new home southeast of Vici and moved into it in 1975. They abode there until her death. Arlene worked briefly for H&R Block at Woodward and later started her own tax office at her home. She quickly developed a large number of customers and was well known for her income tax service. Her outgoing personality and honesty along with her keen sense of humor soon expanded her business and over the course of years, she earned the respect of many people and made many friends. She also hired several helpers who became close friends and kept a big business going until health issues caused her retirement.
Arlene was a midwife in the Church of The Firstborn and, with God's help delivered a large number of children for the younger sisters in the church. She became very close to the young mothers and their children and they became part of her family. She also had a close group of sisters that helped her fulfill the work of a midwife. These friendships developed a strong bond of love that lasted to her death. Arlene was an older sister that was treated as a mother by the younger sisters.
Arlene was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She spent lots of time with the grandchildren and enjoyed them all. The addition of the great-grands was a special treat in the last days of her life. One of the highlights of her life was the Halloween parties.
Her care for her mother was exceptional. She provided excellent day to day care for Verla. Arlene spent many hours with her mother, taking her to special events, fixing her hair, or to town shopping (they did a lot of shopping, not much buying). Caring for her mother was a big part of her life, never was there a better caretaker than Arlene.
She was preceded in death by her parents Elmer and Verla Moss, stepfather Guy Boyd, father and mother-in-law Hugh and Audrey Boyd, stepmother-in-law Edna Boyd, brother Duane Moss, brother-in-laws Gene Boyd and Bob Cunningham and young sister-in-law Joan Boyd.
