Avis Margaret Hazelbaker, longtime Camargo resident, passed from this life on Sunday, January 11, 2009 at the age of 84.
Avis was born on September 27, 1924 to Harve and Bessie (Dawkins) Burr on the Dug Miller farm southeast of Camargo, OK. In 1926 Avis moved with her parents to the Wisenburg Farm in the Camp Creek area. She attended Camp Creek School and graduated from Taloga High School with the Class of 1941.. She then continued her education by attending the Draughn's School of Business in Oklahoma City, OK.
In May of 1942, Avis married John Charles Hazelbaker in Putnam, OK. They were blessed with three children; Jimmie Charles, Beverly Dawn, and Wayne Lee. JC and Avis moved to the Riverview community after JC had returned from serving his country in the military.
Avis was a true homemaker, taking care of the daily tasks of the household while working along side JC on the farm. After JC's passing in 1984, Avis continued to manage the farm. She loved nature and enjoyed doing almost anything that took her outdoors whether it be in her garden and flower beds or on a camping trip.
By far the biggest joy in Avis' life was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and spending time with them. She had a grandmother's intuition and always seemed to know when they had a need or just wanted to talk. She always looked forward to hunting season and having her grandsons and their friends come to stay.
Avis was a member of the Camargo Extension Homemakers Club for several years. She was baptized in the Camp Creek Church of the Nazarene where she was a member. She also attended the Vici Church of the Nazarene for a time and taught Sunday school and Bible School while there. She also taught Sunday school at the Riverview Church.
Avis was preceded in death by her husband, JC Hazelbaker; parents, Harve and Bessie Burr; and brother-in-law, Walter Clark.
Those remaining to cherish her memory are children, Jimmie Hazelbaker and wife Sharon of Blanchard, OK, Beverly Darnell and husband Don of Norman, OK, and Wayne Hazelbaker and wife Debbie of Vici, OK; brother, Paul Burr and wife Wanda of Taloga, OK; sister-in-law, Wilma Clark of Corn, OK; brother-in-law, Jr. Hazelbaker and wife Connie of Yukon, OK; seven grandchildren, Jill Hall, Stephen Browning, Shannon Coker, Jana Hazelbaker, Krista Browning, Shawnda Barton, and John Wayne Hazelbaker; ten great-grandchildren; several nephews, a niece and special friends, Nelda Jackson, LaRonna Welbourne and the Jesus Meraz family.
