Obituary

Babe Loren Brown, longtime Ellis County resident, died February 21, 2014 at the age of 83. Babe was born to Godfrey "Jack" and Ella (Daniel) Brown on May 25, 1930 in Peek, Oklahoma.

Babe grew up in Ellis County, just south of Arnett. He attended the Redden rural school during his elementary years and went on to Arnett High School where he graduated with the Class of 1948. He also attended the Oklahoma State Technical Institute for a short period.

Babe proudly served his country in the United States Army for three years. He attained the rank of Corporal and was awarded several medals during his enlistment. He was honorably discharged in 1953.

On July 9, 1995 Babe was united in marriage to Peggy Pauline Brown in Clark County, Texas and they continued to make their home in Ellis County. Babe worked for the U.S. Postal service for many years as a rural route mail carrier. He was also a farmer/rancher. Babe enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting and fishing, as well as square dancing.

In 1999, Babe moved to the Gold Oaks Retirement Community in Enid, Oklahoma where he was living at the time of his passing.

Babe was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy and parents, Jack and Ella Brown. He is survived by his brother, John W. Brown of Mustang, Oklahoma, sister, Betty Brown of Vici, Oklahoma; nieces, Gwen Smith and LuElla Courtney and nephews, Tom Drake, John Brown and James Brown.
