Ben Loomis Kohrs, a retired engineer, pastor, and truck driver, passed away peacefully at his home in Gage, Oklahoma on May 5, 2023, at the age of 77. Ben was born on November 3, 1945, in Gillette, Wyoming, to Ben C. Kohrs and Allene (Loomis) Kohrs.
During his high school years at Douglas, Wyoming High School, Ben was a member of the wrestling team and achieved first place in the Wyoming Eastern Regional competition and third place in the state of Wyoming High School wrestling tournament during his senior year. He went on to attend the University of Wyoming in Laramie, Wyoming, and the Western Conservative Baptist Seminary from 1981 to 1985.
In 1977, Ben married the love of his life, Deborah Ann Thedell, in Salt Lake City, Utah, and they welcomed a daughter, Jenica Ann, into their family. Together, they lived in Logan, Utah, Owyhee, Nevada, Portland, Oregon, Indianapolis, Indiana, Lincoln, Kansas, Shattuck and Slapout, Oklahoma before settling in Gage. He was baptized in 1973 and was a member of the St. Paul Congregational Church in Shattuck, Oklahoma, where he served as a Sunday school teacher and a Deacon. Ben was also a member of the Gideon's and was the president of the group in Woodward, Oklahoma. He was a supporter of the NRA. Ben had a passion for ministry, and he ministered to those around him regardless of his job.
Ben enjoyed reading, working with wood, working on cars, and studying the Bible. He was always ready to spend time with his grandchildren and he proudly held the title of "World's Greatest PaPa."
Ben is preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Allene Kohrs, Mary Bess Kohrs, M.D., a niece, Renee Rickard, and other loved ones. He is survived by his wife, Debbie Kohrs of Gage, Oklahoma; his daughter, Jenica Ann Long, and husband Lonnie of Shattuck, Oklahoma; his three grandchildren, Isaac, Lauren, and Greta; his sister, Karyl Rickard, Ph.D., and husband Eugene; his nephew, Mark Rickard and family; other relatives; and a host of friends.
Ben will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his kind and gentle spirit, and his love for his family and friends. His life was a testament to his deep commitment to serving others and his faith in God. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
