Berneice Annette (Hedges) Gilchrist was born August 27, 1936 in Elk City, OK. and entered her heavenly home on March 16, 2022 in Woodward, OK. at the age of 85.  She was the daughter of Gordon Taylor and Jessie May (Bailey) Hedges and grew up on the family farm east of Vici, OK. with her brothers Robert and Galen.  Her school years were spent in the Richmond school system where she was the valedictorian of the graduating class of 1954.  She attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, OK. for one year on a business scholarship before returning to make Woodward, OK. her permanent home.  In 1947 Berneice was baptized at the First Christian Church in Seiling, OK. and upon moving to Woodward she was active in the Woodward First Christian Church. In 1995 Berneice was united in marriage to John R. Gilchrist in Woodward, OK.  She was the proud mother of three daughters, Kim, Sherrie and Kristy.

Berneice worked as a bookkeeper for seven years at Hedges & Gaden in Woodward, OK.  She was a volunteer at the Woodward hospital for seventeen years and was a claims processor at Beaver Express in Woodward, OK. until her retirement.  She was an Avon representative for twenty-seven years.  Square dancing was an activity Berneice enjoyed immensely and it was a big part of her life, reading was a favorite past time and spending time with her family was very important to her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Gordon and Jessie Hedges, her husband John Gilchrist, and daughter Kim Webster.

Memories of happy times together will be cherished by her daughters, Sherrie English and her husband Kevin of Woodward, OK. and Kristy Rolens-Piland and her husband Randy of Woodward, OK.  Her grandchildren, Jeff Rolens and his wife Shallon of Stuttgart, Germany, Tim Shirley and his wife April of Woodward, OK. and Amy English and her husband Manuel of Woodward, OK., great grandchildren Cady and Colby Rolens.  Her two brothers, Robert Hedges and his wife Sue of Seiling, OK. and Galen Hedges of Taloga, OK., three nephews, other relatives and friends.
