On June 13, 1938 in Olathe, Colorado, Betty Jean Nation was born to Bro. Lewis and Sis Violet (Ashby) Nation. She was welcomed into this world by her sister Gladys and brothers Thomas and Lawerence. The family grew up in the Olathe area and at the age of six they moved to Tulare, California. Times were hard and they all had to contribute to making a living. Betty started cleaning house at the age of fourteen. She attended school in Tulare.
On December 6, 1953, with ice floating down the river, Betty gave her hand to Bro. Dean Williams and was baptized into the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn.
The family returned to Olathe where Betty helped her folks run Nations Grocery. On October 22, 1955 Betty married Johnny McCracken at Delta, Colorado. They moved to Naturita, Colorado so Johnny could work in the mines. They later lived in Uravan before returning to the Olathe area where they engaged in farming. To this union five children were born, Susan Darlene, John Edward (Eddie), Raymond Glen, Carl Wesley and Cynthia Mary (Cindy). Betty worked for Broughtens Onion Sorting and Packing Shed in Olathe and later at Skyland Foods in Delta, Colorado. On March 5, 1974 Johnny passed away leaving Betty to finish raising the family.
In August of 1977 Betty married Bro. Jessie Carey and moved to the Atoka, Oklahoma area. She added to her group three of Jessie's sons, Randy and wife Wendy of Baker, Louisiana, Terry and wife Nancy and Timmy of Atoka. On June 6, 2003 Bro. Jessie passed away. Betty returned to Colorado settling in Montrose at the River Meadows Trailer Park. She spent her time doing various things with different ones. In December of 2020, due to failing health, Betty went to stay with her children. On March 28, 2024, Betty passed from this world at the age of 85 years, 9 months and 15 days.
She is preceded in death by her first husband Johnny McCracken, her second husband Jessie Carey, grandsons Chad Don Moss and Jason McCracken. Her parents Lewis and Violet Nation, her sister Gladys Todd and her husband Vernon, her brothers Thomas Nation, Norman Lawerence Nation and his wife Gracie. Her father and mother- in-law Ted and Lois McCracken, grandparents Thomas and Cynthia Nation and Oscar and Ethel Ashby. In laws, Lucile and husband Roy Long, Merell and husband Bobby Morris, Linda Greene, Kathy McCracken and husband Gary, Nora Lynn Lindsey and husband Bill, Alfred McCracken, Ronnie Jackson, Lonnie McCracken and Kenny McCracken and her stepsons, Terry, Timmy and Randy Carey.
Betty is survived by two daughters Darlene Moss and husband Danny of Vici, Oklahoma and Cindy Mullins and husband Jimmy of Atoka, Oklahoma, three sons Eddie McCracken and wife Denise of Montrose, Colorado, Glen McCracken and wife Diane of Olathe, Colorado and Carl McCracken of Kanrado, Kansas. Eleven grandkids, eighteen great grandkids, five step grandkids and fifteen step great grandkids, sisters in law, JoAnn Nation of Oklahoma, Minnie of Olathe, Colorado, Marg of Tucson, Arizona, Sandy Lugard and husband Larry of Delta, Colorado. In laws, Wendy of Baker, Louisiana, Debbie of Sacramento, California, Doug and wife Nina of Olathe, Colorado, Charlene of Montrose, Colorado and a host of other relatives and friends.
