Obituary

Betty Virginia Ferchau of Oklahoma City, formerly of Gage, passed on to eternal life on her 90th birthday, December 16, 2020. Her funeral will be held Wednesday, December 30, 2020, 2pm, at Bible Baptist Church, Woodward, Oklahoma. Interment will follow at Gage Memorial Cemetery.

Our Mom was born on December 16, 1930 in Kansas City, Kansas, to Jess and Mary Francis (Beard) Miller. After the death of her parents at an early age, Mom was raised by her maternal Grandmother, Bertha Gordon in Enid, Oklahoma. She attended Enid School. While working at Vance Air Force Base, she met her future husband, Frank Ferchau and they were married August 9, 1950. She was the stepmother to: Frank, Harry, Phylis and Mary Louise and their marriage was blessed with six additional children: Oscar, Steven, Bruce, Stanley, Betty and Barbara.

In 1969, the family established a home in Gage, Oklahoma. On any given day, you would find Mom preparing delicious meals including baking bread, sewing, cleaning and doing laundry for her growing family. Betty was a faithful member of Bible Baptist Church of Woodward, where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school and children's church for many years. She loved the Lord and was not hesitant to let anyone know. She enjoyed watching Lawrence Welk and solving crossword and word-search puzzles. She had an easy laugh and was tender-hearted and sweet-spirited. Mom loved people.

After the death of her husband in 1996, Mom began her career outside the home.

She worked at the Gage Public Schools as Librarian for several years as well as being a caregiver around the Gage and Shattuck area. She also enjoyed greeting people at Walmart for a few years.

In 2014, with the progression of her Alzheimer's, Mom moved to Oklahoma City to live with her son, Stanley. In 2019, she required more specialized care and moved to a long-term care facility close to Stanley's home.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents, grandmother, husband, son (Oscar) and stepdaughters (Phyllis and Mary Louise). Other than the remaining immediate family, she is survived by 19 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.
