With great sadness, we announce the passing of Beverly Jean (Helmick) Barry, 75, on August 16, 2026 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Beverly was born and raised in Western Oklahoma. Growing up on a small family farm outside of Vici, she learned to appreciate the simple things in life. Her favorite times always involved her family. Whether she was helping her parents on the farm, gathering around the table for large family dinners with the many members of the Helmick and Stevens families, or celebrating holidays together, family was at the heart of Beverly’s life.
Nothing was better than summers on the farm. If she wasn’t out with her friends, she could often be found sitting on the front porch with her dad, eating fresh watermelon straight from the garden. She also loved making homemade ice cream on the front porch—simple moments that became some of her most cherished memories.
Shortly after her 6th birthday, Beverly found comfort and joy in helping others and being a caretaker. It started with helping take care of her younger sister, Gayla, who was born with cerebral palsy. She quickly realized her dream career was nursing. After graduating from West Texas A&M University with her nursing degree, she spent the next 35 years working every aspect of renal failure including Transplant Coordinator, Register Nurse, Instructor and Director of Nursing. Even in the last years of her life, she was still finding a way to take care of her husband who lost his battle with dementia and heart failure in June of 2026.
Beverly is survived by her daughter, Amber, and son-in-law, Jeff, of Oklahoma City; more than 20 beloved cousins and their families, many of whom were lifelong friends and shared a lifetime of cherished memories; and her friends, Mary, Jeri, Jarita, Rick, Kathy, Ellen, Mike, Terry, and countless others.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene; her parents, Loyd and Martha (Stevens) Helmick; her sister, Gayla; and her brother, Gale; as well as cherished family members including Diane Helmick, Bernice Wells, Erin Glasson, Bruce Stevens, and many more who held a special place in her heart.
Services will be at Vici United Methodist Church on Friday August 21, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. A combined Celebration of Life for Gene and Beverly will be held on October 3rd from 11:30 – 2:30 at Ted’s Café located at 2836 NW68th Street in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Beverly to the Vici Fire Department.
