William Donald Moore, the third of five sons of Jacob Coleman and Jessie (Soliday) Moore, was born February 12, 1936, at the home of his grandparents, Frederick and Harriet Soliday, at Camp Creek. The attending physician was Dr. E.M. Lloyd, Taloga. Bill died at his home on July 24, 2008. The Moore family lived west of Camargo, there Bill and his brothers attended and graduated from Camargo School. During his years, Bill played baseball and basketball and was active in 4-H; his main project was poultry and poultry judging. He then enrolled in Oklahoma A&M College. In 1958 he was a member of the first class to graduate from Oklahoma State University. Bill majored in animal science and was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho, Brock and Bridle, and Collegiate FFA. While attending OSU, Bill enlisted in the 95th Division Reserves. By the time of his discharge in 1962, he had attained the rank of SFC. Bill and Gerry Jones were married by Minister Bob Peake at the Taloga First Christian Church on August 4th 1957. They made their home in Stillwater until Bill graduated from OSU. At which time they moved to Gerry's childhood home south of Taloga where Bill took over the farming operation of Walter Smith, Gerry's maternal grandfather. Their children were the 5th generation of the family to live in that home. This remained their home until 1974 when they moved to their new home a mile south of Taloga where they continue to live. Bill greatly expanded their farming operation, and was operating land and raising cattle at both Taloga and Leedey at the time of his death. Bill became an insurance agent for Oklahoma Farm Bureau in 1964 and worked for Farm Bureau for almost thirty years. Bill was conferred the degree of Master Mason at the Taloga Lodge in 1962 and is also a 32 Degree Mason. He served as worshipful Master of the Taloga Lodge and as Lodge Secretary for many years. He and Gerry are both members of the Order of the Eastern Star serving as Worthy Patron and Worthy Matron as well as in other offices of the order. Bill was an Elder of the Taloga Christian Church and served as a board member for many years including the period which the new church building was constructed. Bill was a member of the Taloga Kiwanis Club from 1965 until the club disbanded in 2003. He served two terms as president. As president of the club in 1993, he was instrumental in organizing Taloga's 101st Birthday Bash which evolved into the Taloga Festival each year, and he served as chairman for the Kiwanis chili cook-off held in conjunction with the festival each year. He also served as chairman of the club's annual Christmas Lighting Contest and High-way Trash Pick-up Project. Bill was also a member of the Taloga School Board from 1965 to 1975. During those years the Webb, Putnam, and Oakwood School Districts were added to the Taloga district. Bill along with school superintendent, Jerry Brace, and principal, Jimmy Harrel, and many other dedicated Taloga and Oakwood residents worked with school patrons to obtain right-of-ways from land owners, survey, and clear the heavy overgrowth out of the river and creeks to prepare for the construction of the South Canadian River Bridge to allow the students from Oakwood to be bussed to Taloga. Bill served as a volunteer beef superintendent for the Dewey County Fair and the Spring Livestock for many years and contributed to the growth of the land judging contest by providing a site for the yearly contests. He was named FFA Honorary Member twice. He received the County Friend of 4-H award and was awarded the County Alumni Award in 2000. That year he also received the state 4-H Alumni Award at 4-H Roundup at OSU. He was a long time supporter of 4-H, FFA, and of the Taloga School Sports and summer youth programs.
