Obituary

Billie Shirlene Moss was born to Claud Joshua and Millie Jane (Titus) Moss on December 26, 1938, and passed from this life June 24, 2022 at her home in Vici, OK at the age of 83 years, 5 months and 29 days.  Shirlene was born at her grandparents, Tom and Emma Moss's home, in Yellow Jacket, CO. The family moved southeast of Camargo, OK in 1941. In 1946, when she was almost 8 years old, a little red-headed brother, named Jimmie Leon, joined the family. Her school years were split between Webb and Camargo Schools, graduating from Camargo High School in 1957. During this period, they lived in 4 places on the same road between Camargo and Webb. Shirlene was an excellent athlete, being recruited by the boys to play baseball on their team, and playing basketball as a guard on the outstanding Camargo Blackhawks team.  She was fast and truly loved to run.  During her high school years, she began attending church at the Vici General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn.  She often commented that the kindness that was shown to her by the young people and their parents through those years caused her to want to keep coming back.  This continued until in her words, "the Lord opened my ears and I thought, I want to hear more of this". On February 19, 1956, she was baptized by Brother Jud Poulson. This decision truly changed her life, as her focus quickly shifted from the temporal things of this world to those that are eternal.  After graduating high school, she attended Southwestern University in Weatherford, OK completing a short course in Business. She began working as a clerk-typist at the Vocational Rehabilitation office in Fort Supply and later in Weatherford, OK. In December of 1959, the family experienced a great loss with the death of her younger brother, Jimmie. His loss was always deeply felt.

On December 22, 1962, Shirlene was united in marriage to Leonard Troy Cunningham. They made their home in Oklahoma City, where they were blessed with the arrival of their daughter, Lisa Dawnette in February of 1964. Troy and Shirlene had just a few wonderful years together, but during that time they made many lifelong friends. On May 17, 1966, Shirlene suffered a huge loss in the death of her husband, Troy. She was expecting their second child at the time, and Lisa was 2 years old. Following Troy's death, she made the decision to move her and Lisa back to Vici, OK, living with her parents for a short time.  In August, 1966, Jeffrey Troy made his arrival, completing their little family.  Shirlene spent the next 16 years raising Lisa and Jeff as a single mother.  These were hard years, raising her children without her companion by her side, but Shirlene never questioned God's will.  She felt every trial made us stronger and was for the saving of our soul.  During this period the family was able to build a new home less than a block from the Vici school, which she always felt was a true blessing. She was content in the life God had chosen for her and was singularly focused on serving God and teaching her children to know Him.  However, God had other plans for her as she met and began dating Brother Clyde Lewis from Olathe, CO in 1982.  Clyde was an avid pilot and owned his own plane.  He would fly to Vici from Olathe every chance he could to court Shirlene.   She was hesitant to remarry and sought the Lord diligently, but Clyde was persistent and God finally said yes. They were married April 2, 1983, three months after Lisa and James were married and during Jeff's junior year of high school.  Clyde was a wonderful husband to Shirlene and this marriage greatly expanded her family.  She began the next chapter of her life in Olathe, CO., loving his children and grandchildren as her own. Even though they were now grown, Lisa and Jeff gained a loving father and new family for life.  For the next 13 years, Clyde and Shirlene worked side by side on Clyde's farm, raising pigs, big gardens and acres of Olathe Sweet Corn which they loved to share.  With Clyde being an elder at the church in Delta, their home was often full of family and brethren from around the nation.  Shirlene loved showing hospitality and cooked many meals to share with those who visited their home.  During those years, she made many more dear friends.  After losing Clyde in 1996, Shirlene made the decision to move back to Vici, to be closer to her children and mother. She was a devoted daughter to her mother, Millie, and they became a well known pair. You rarely saw one without the other. As Millie's health failed in her latter years, Shirlene moved in with her and cared for her tirelessly.  Millie truly loved having the brethren in her home and together they continued showing much hospitality until Millie's passing in 2010.  After losing her mother, she returned to her home in Vici. Shirlene was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandma.  She cherished time with her family. She spent many hours visiting with her grandchildren and playing with her great grands.  She loved when they visited and was always game for a trip with them.

If you knew Shirlene, you knew living the faith and serving God was her life.  She truly loved the Word of God.  She spent many hours reading or listening to the Bible. She loved to record the sermons at church and diligently transferred them to CD's to share with those who were unable to attend Church.  Her desire was for everyone to be able to share the wonderful Word of the Lord that God had blessed her with. It was during this time that Jeff upgraded her to an iPhone and added an Amazon Echo in her home.  Little did we know that she had a hidden love for technology.  Soon she was voice texting, giving commands to Alexa and posting on Facebook.  This adoption of technology didn't happen flawlessly, which led to some pretty funny incidents. However, she didn't let that deter her.  She embraced technology as a tool, allowing her to stay connected with dear friends and family all across the nation. Her home was a haven to many. She loved having a group, whether young or old, around her dining room table. She had a way of making everyone feel special and welcome.   She loved sharing her homemade sourdough bread and checking on people that came to her mind. As her health began to fail in the last couple of years, she spent more time at home but that didn't slow her down.  She continued to have brethren, family and friends often.  Her great love and care she had shown others through the years was returned to her, as her house was rarely quiet.  If you drove by her home her drive was often full of cars of her many friends, who came from far and near to stop in and visit.  She was truly loved by many and will be greatly missed.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Claud and Millie Moss, brother Jimmie Moss, husbands Troy Cunningham and Clyde Lewis, great granddaughter Serenity Cunningham, step children: Dexter Lewis, Mark Branham, Darlene Branham Keeton, Denise Graham, David Gibson and Rod Morris, step grandchildren: Evan Lewis, Jeremiah Branham and Shannon McGaha.
