Obituary

Billy Duke Cox, age 84  and son of Bill and Marion Cox, was born January 27, 1938 in Utleyville, CO. and passed from this life on November 2, 2022 in Wichita, KS.  Billy married Peggy Sue Williams on May 28, 1961 in Moorewood, OK.  The couple was blessed with three sons, Larry Dwayne, Terry Dean and David Ray.  The family enjoyed camping, boating and fishing.  Billy was an amazing woodworker all his adult life.  He spent lots of time sharing his craft with his sons and he made many pieces of furniture for his family and friends.

Billy was a lifelong educator, serving as a teacher and then superintendent in the schools of Arapaho, OK., Weaver, OK., Frederick, OK., Logan, N.M., Mountain View, OK., Empire at Duncan, OK., Geary, OK. and Hooker, OK.  He was recognized numerous times by his peers for his work in improving smaller school systems.

After his retirement, Billy and Peggy traveled in their RV driving the Alaskan highway.  They spent nine summers in Rico, CO. as volunteers with the Forest Service at an Information Center high in the mountains.  They resigned from the Forest Service in 2013 when Billy was diagnosed with cancer.  They moved to Enid, OK. and in 2021 to Bel Aire, KS. to be closer to their son, Larry.

Billy is survived by his loving family: wife Peggy of the home, son Larry Cox and wife Sandy of Wichita, KS., son Terry Cox and Janet Mickelson of Albertville, MN., son David Cox and wife Melissa of Denton, TX.; grandsons Jason Cox and Brett Cox of Wichita, KS.,  grandson Kegan Cox and Lexie Buchanan of Denton, TX. and granddaughter Amber Cox of Ft. Collins, CO.;brother Tony Cox and wife Kathy of Coweta, OK., brother Berge Cox and wife Sharon of Great Bend, KS., sister in law Elaine Cox of Oklahoma City, OK., brother in law Fred Williams and wife Billie of Haskell, OK., brother in law Scott Haynes of Elk City, OK., numerous nieces and nephews and many friends from their RVing days as well as educators with whom he worked.  Billy was preceded in death by his parents Bill and Marion Cox, sisters Mary and Betty Cox, brother Vernon Dale Cox, parents in law Frank and Mary Williams and sister in law Penny Haynes.
