Brenda Yates

Jan 14, 1962 — Jul 22, 2026

Seiling, OK

Brenda Lee Yates (Seal) was born on January 14th, 1962, to George Leroy and Corene Pearl (Shively) Seal in Mooreland, Oklahoma. As a child she grew up with her siblings Greg, Teresa, and Annette on the family farm south of Seiling, Oklahoma. Growing up on the farm, Brenda found a fondness for horses and barrel racing which helped her to become the Fairview rodeo queen in 1977. Brenda often recounted stories of spending time with her grandpa Bert while she was young, many of which included him sneaking out of the nursing home to go spend time with some nearby horses.

Brenda enjoyed playing sports while she was attending Seiling Public Schools where she graduated in 1980. In 1981 she was blessed with her first child Susan Shawnell and shortly thereafter was blessed with her two sons Jade Allen and Geo Joe and finally in 1989 she was blessed with her youngest Shelby Shree. Brenda lost her youngest son in 1987. Even through the grief of losing her son she was a good mother and always tried to support her kids in whatever they did.

She then pursued her degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in psychology at northwestern Oklahoma state where she graduated in 1995 with her masters. She then pursued many jobs in prisons around Oklahoma before finally getting a job at Vance Airforce Base and settled in Waukomis Oklahoma. She raised her children in Waukomis until 2004 when she moved back to Dewey County to help her parents raise her first grandson Danny. In the last years of her life, she found joy in spending time with her grandkids and watching them grow.

Brenda was preceded in death by her parents George and Corene Seal, son Geo Joe Seal and son in law Wendell Nelson. She will be survived by her siblings: Greg and Pam (Taloga), Teresa and Ron (Orion), and Annette and Eddie (Elreno), and children and grandchildren: Susan (Oklahoma City), Danny, Jade and Katie and their children Brynlee, Killian, Jade Raine, and Warwick (Taloga), Shelby and Tim and their child Daphne (Oakwood) As well as many nieces and nephews and friends and extended family.
