Obituary
Kenneth "Bud" Merl Hicks passed peacefully from this life on March 22, 2010 with his family at his side. Bud was born July 31, 1922 in Ames, Oklahoma and was 87 years old at the time of his passing. He was one of two sons born to Clarence Elvin and Etta May (Zieber) Hicks.
Bud's elementary and high school years were spent in the Ames school system. After high school he attended Auto Mechanics School at Enid, Oklahoma. Bud enlisted in the United States Navy on August 25, 1942 and attained the rank of 1st Class Petty Officer. While serving in the military he attended the Navy Air Mechanics School at Norman, Oklahoma. He was honorably discharged on January 7, 1946.
On August 16, 1947 Bud and Miss Ima Jean Coyle were united in marriage in Taloga, Oklahoma. Their family quickly grew with the addition of their four children; Merl Gene, Linda, LaDawn Ann and Angela Faithe. The family made their home in the Taloga.
Bud was a lifelong farmer – rancher who enjoyed working his cattle and the land. He was a loving husband and father who taught his children about the important things in life. Bud enjoyed listening to music and reading a good book.
He was a longtime member of the Assembly of God church. After returning from the war he attended the Ames Assembly of God and after moving to Taloga became a faithful member of the Taloga Assembly of God Church where he served as a Deacon.
Family members preceding him in death are his parents, Clarence and Etta May Hicks; brother, Cecil Roy Hicks; and sister-in-law, Zella Kline Hicks.
Loved ones remaining to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 62 years, Ima Jean (Coyle) Hicks of the home; children, Merl Gene Hicks and wife Oma, of Weatherford, OK, Linda R. Hicks of Tyrone, OK, LaDawn Ann Hicks of Woodward, OK, and Angela Faithe Hicks of Tyrone, OK; grandchildren, Julia Hicks Williams and husband Sean, Kory Hicks and wife Ashley, Jeremy Hicks, and Bryan Hicks; 2 great-grandchildren; aunts, Mrs. Ruth Zieber of Taloga, OK and Mrs. Beth Hicks of Enid, OK; other family members and a lifetime of friends.
