IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Calvin Ernest
Adkisson
March 5, 1929 – January 5, 2024
Calvin Ernest Adkisson, a man of strong work ethic, a love for life, and an enduring passion for golf, left this world on January 5, 2024, in Seiling, Oklahoma. Born on March 5, 1929, on the family farm south of Rhea, Oklahoma, to Cecil A. Adkisson and Sybil Ellen (Norton) Adkisson, Calvin grew up amidst the fields and wide skies of the Oklahoma landscape. He completed his education at Leedey, graduating with the Class of 1947.
On a day symbolizing love, February 14, 1948, Calvin Adkisson embarked on a lifelong journey when he married Frances Moseley at the First Baptist Church Parsonage in Elk City. From this union, two daughters, Vickie and Sherri, were born.
He was one of the longest members of the Elk City Golf & Country Club and at one point was President. Calvin's professional journey led him to the Shell Oil Company, where his dedication and hard work saw him rise through the ranks to become a shift foreman. In addition to his work with Shell, he also contributed his time and skills as a part-time salesman at White's Auto Store in his early years. He was transferred with Shell to Kalkaska, Michigan and later retired and invested his Shell retirement in the creation of a golf course, a venture that brought him immense pride.
Calvin's love for sports, particularly OU Football, and a fondness for dancing reflected his zest for life. He was a gracious host, finding joy in grilling steaks on his charcoal grill and entertaining friends and family at his home. An avid golfer throughout his life, Calvin's return to Elk City in 1997 saw him join the Elk City Country and Golf Club.
In his later years, Sherri and Vickie played a vital role in caring for Calvin. In 2019, as his health declined, he made his final move to the Seiling Nursing Center, where he remained for four years until his passing. Calvin's spiritual journey included baptism at the First Baptist Church and later becoming a member of the Grand View Assembly of God of Elk City.
Calvin Ernest Adkisson was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Sybil Adkisson, sisters Ina Herren, Opal Ogden, and Rena Morrison, and son-in-law Dean Gaden. He is survived by his daughters, Vickie Gaden of Seiling and Sherri Weatherly and husband Bill of Elk City; grandsons, Matt Weatherly and wife Lori, and Kyle Weatherly and wife Leisha, along with their sons, Bryce and Carter; special nephew Sam Adkisson and wife Mona, and numerous cherished nieces, nephews, and friends.
To him, the secret of longevity and success all falls in attitude. And, of course, he sees the value in having fun and counting your blessings no matter where you are in life.
Calvin's legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew him—a man of hard work, dedication, and a love for life's simple pleasures.
