Carl M. Skelton, 94 year old resident of the Veterans Center in Clinton, Oklahoma and former resident of Leedey, Oklahoma passed from this life on April 29, 2012. On September 5, 1917 Carl was born to Grover Lee and Sara Alice (Morlan) Skelton at Leedey, Oklahoma. Carl graduated from high school at Trail, Oklahoma which is just south of Camargo.
On January 4, 1941 Carl married his sweetheart, Lydia Velma Baumgartner in Clinton, Oklahoma. Carl and Lydia welcomed the birth of their only child, son Lonnie.
Carl proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He was in the Reconnaissance Company, 601st Tank Destroyer Battalion. He was honored with both a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star medal for his service. He was honorably discharged in October, 1945.
After being discharged Carl and his family made their home in Leedey, Oklahoma. They were faithful members of the First Baptist Church. Carl spent his entire life working in and around the Leedey area.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Grover and Sadie Skelton; brothers, Joe, Fred, and Ross; sisters, Dorothy Skelton Combs and Betty Skelton Kauk; and his only daughter-in-law, Mary Kathryn (Day) Skelton.
He leaves to mourn his passing, wife Lydia of the home in Leedey; son, Lonnie; grandsons, Darren and wife Stacie (Boone) Skelton and Derrick Skelton; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Taylor, Chastity, Sydney and Chipper as well as several nieces, nephews and a lifetime of friends.
