Carla Jean (Dishen) Major, born on December 25, 1952, in Shattuck, Oklahoma, peacefully passed from this life on February 25, 2024, in Elk City, Oklahoma. She was the cherished daughter of James Dishen Jr. and Georgia (Boyd) Dishen Davis.
Carla spent her early years growing up south of Podunk with her two sisters, Arleen Hixson and Darla Clark. She attended Arnett Public Schools and graduated with the class of 1971. Following her graduation, she embarked on a journey to Norman, Oklahoma, where she completed her college education at the University of Oklahoma in 1976.
After college, Carla married Jerry Major, and they made their home in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. A new chapter in her life began when she moved to Missouri, where she found fulfillment working as a vehicle salesman. Residing in Lee's Summit, MO,, it was there that she crossed paths with Mike Merriman. In 2019, Carla and Mike returned to Oklahoma, settling in Elk City.
Carla had a passion for gardening, tending to her flower and vegetable gardens, and finding solace in yard work. She was baptized at the Church of Christ in Arnett, OK, at a young age. While living in Lee's Summit, she actively attended church services, Bible study, and the Healing Class.
Carla is survived by her mother Georgia Davis of Elk City, OK., her sisters, Arleen Hixson of Arnett, OK, and Darla Clark and her husband Earl of Elk City, OK. She leaves behind a special son, Steve Merriman, and his wife Janna, along with grandchildren Collin, Paige, and Cassie. Her memory will be cherished by nieces Jaime Einhorn and husband Mike of Deer Creek, OK, Kelli Briscoe and husband Ted of Elk City, OK, and Tiffany Pretty of Woodward, OK. Carla also leaves behind numerous great nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her father James Dishen, Jr., her beloved friend Mike Merriman, special son Chris Merriman, and other loved ones.
Carla will be remembered for the love she shared with family and friends. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
