Carolyn Cashmere (Vincent) Turner was born June 18, 1927 in a First Aid camp in Roxanne, Texas. She passed from this life on December 9, 2007 at the age of 80. Her dad, Duke Vincent, was the medical doctor for an oil field company for several years prior to the family moving to Vici.
Carolyn was baptized a Catholic in her own home. She was diagnosed with life-threatening pneumonia as a baby and baptism and last rites were performed. But Duke and Marie were able to "nurse" her back to health. It helped having an M.D. and a Registered Nurse for parents.
She enjoyed her entire childhood in Vici and valued her friendship to her nine lifelong friends. Gloria, her sister, and Carolyn were well known around town as Doc Vincent's girls and all antics were forgiven.
Carolyn married classmate Dewayne Turner in April, 1947. They celebrated 61 years of wedded bliss, but they had to argue the point. To this union four children were born; Marcia, Denise, Mark, and Craig.
The couple lived a number of years in Vici prior to moving to Oklahoma City. Carolyn worked for Globe Life Insurance and at Tinker Air Force Base as a key punch operator, an early version of a computer operator.
In July of 1959 Carolyn and Dewayne became Texans by moving to Sunray, Texas. For twenty two years they were avid BOBCAT fans and took great pleasure in piling all friends and family into the RV and traveling to all corners of Texas.
Carolyn graduated from LVN school in Dumas, Texas in 1965. This just inspired her to strive for her B.S. degree in nursing from Northwest Hospital and Amarillo College in Amarillo, Texas.
Dewayne was promoted in 1981 and they completed a full circle by moving back to Oklahoma. She worked as a nurse for ten years at Western State Hospital in Ft. Supply, Oklahoma and retired in 1997. But retirement was not in her vocabulary so she jumped right back into her favorite hobby, talking to people! She became a door greeter at Wal Mart and was able to keep up with all the new "news" in Woodward.
Carolyn was a "double your pleasure" Christian. She attended mass at St. Peters on Saturday night and church on Sunday at the United Methodist church with Dewayne. All bases were covered.
She was a life long member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society, St. Peter's Altar Society, Eastern Star, and contributed to the National Humane Society. Her dogs were her favorite babies. Mindy, Snookie, and Pepper were cuddled for years. She took in numerous stays and always showed a soft heart to all animals.
Her grandchildren call her "E" and she took years of ribbing and teasing from them. Grandma loved traveling, going to casinos, and she never met a stranger.
There will be one less hand dealt at the Senior Citizens home on Mondays and Thursdays and will be missed by many and loved by all.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Duke Vincent, M.D. and Marie Vincent, R.N., longtime medical team for Vici.
Carolyn is survived by her husband, Dewayne Tuner of the home; by children, Marcia Ryan of Nashville, TN, Denise Barnes of Dickson, TN, Mark Turner of Colleyville, TX, and Craig Turner of Franklin, TN; by eleven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; by many nieces, nephews, other family and a host of friends.
