Charlene Frances Gamble Long was born on August 16, 1935 on the Gamble homestead in Custer County to Clifton Gamble and Laura Touchstone Gamble. She departed this life and went to be with her Lord on December 20, 2007 at the age of 72 years, 4 months, and 4 days.
Charlene was united in marriage to John Long in September of 1951. They lived at Leedey for a short while and then moved to Oklahoma City, where Charlene worked at Streets Department Store in downtown Oklahoma City. She often told stories of going to work wearing white gloves, beautiful dresses, and very high heels. They then moved to Bartlesville where Charlene went to Cosmetology School. Later, they moved to Stillwater and Charlene was a beautician there for 20 years. She was very talented and had many loyal customers, but due to poor health, she had to retire. She then moved back to Leedey in 1991 and had told many people how happy she had been here. She enjoyed being with family and friends and she especially enjoyed going on trips and cruises with her sisters.
Charlene was a volunteer at the Senior Citizen Meals on Wheels program and a member of the Leedey Church of Christ. Although she had no children of her own, she was a very special aunt to many nieces and nephews who loved her very much. Charlene had been in poor health for many years but she never complained and always had a positive outlook on life.
She was preceded in death by her husband John Long and her parents, Clifton and Laura Gamble. She leaves as her survivors her older sisters, Lorena Vidana of Yuba City, California and Juanita Ommen of Leedey, Oklahoma; sister-in-law Betty Day and husband Bob of Clinton, Oklahoma; a very special cousin Frances Ray (who was like another sister to her) of Leedey, Oklahoma; and by other cousins, nieces, and nephews.
