Charles W. "Dub" Herron, Jr. was born March 5, 1922 to Charlie Will and Kate (Allen) Herron at their family farm southwest of Follett, Texas. He departed this life July 30, 2009 at the age of 87.
Dub went to Cope Country School and then Follett High School where he attended through part of his freshman year.
Dub married Juanita Lee Ashpaugh March 27, 1944 at the courthouse in Arnett, Oklahoma. They enjoyed dinner and a movie for their honeymoon. To this union one daughter Patricia Lee was born June 30, 1946 at Shattuck, Oklahoma.
Dub started farming and ranching and stayed on the family farm where he was born, until 1949. The family farmed and raised cattle and horses. They moved into Follett in 1951 and farmed until 1956. They then moved to Laverne, Oklahoma and started racing and training horses and sold their farm machinery and cattle. The family moved to Arnett, Oklahoma in 1975 where they enjoyed many years until retiring in 1992. They moved one last time in 1999 to Beaver, Oklahoma to be near their daughter.
In 1953, Dub trained race horses at La Mesa Park in Raton, New Mexico as a quarter horse handicapper. In addition to working with race horses, thoroughbreds and quarter horses, he also enjoyed calf roping. He attended the Baptist church and was recently saved by Bob Baldridge.
Dub was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Kate Herron; sisters: Mayrene Deeds, Mamie Ann Baldwin and Iva Herron. He is survived by his loving wife Juanita Lee Herron of Beaver, Oklahoma; daughter Patricia Lee Miner and husband Wendell of Beaver, Oklahoma; sister Lola Kliewer of Follett, Texas; grandson Kelin Miner and wife Kelly of Beaver, Oklahoma; one great-grandson Cody Lee Miner and one great-grand-daughter Hunter Leslie Miner of Beaver, Oklahoma; other family and many dear friends.
