Charley William Barton, 85-year-old resident of Arnett, OK, passed from this life on April 27, 2017 in Woodward, OK. Charley was born February 17, 1932 to Archie T. and Clara May Barton in the Bishop Community located in Ellis County. He grew up on the A.T. Barton Ranch in the Bishop Community with his many brothers and sisters. Charley attended Bishop School and graduated with the Class of 1950.

Charley served in the United States Army as a Private First Class from 1953 to 1955, spending 14 months in Korea. He was honorably discharged and earned the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, and the National Defense Medal. After his military service, Charley attended Central State University and obtained his B.A. in Business and History. In 1961, he graduated from the Oklahoma City University College of Law.
In 1963, Charley married Margie Kay Thomas and to this union two sons were born, Stanton Todd and Clayton Thomas. In 1977, Charley married Linda Shotwell and welcomed her children to the family, Todd and Tammy.
Charley practiced law in Ellis County after graduating law school. In 1962, he was appointed County Attorney, serving in that position until 1967. After serving as County Attorney, he was appointed County Judge and then served as Associate District Judge in Ellis County until his retirement in December 1994.

After he retired, Charley spent a considerable amount of time at Foss Lake where he made many friends. Charley was a very active person and was a member of many organizations, including the St. Alban Masonic Lodge No. 192, Arnett Kiwanis Club, the Ellis County Bar Association, and the Oklahoma Bar Association. Charley received 50-year pins from both the Lodge and the Oklahoma Bar Association. Charley enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, and especially spending time with his family and friends.

Charley is preceded in death by his parents, Archie T. and Clara May Barton; five brothers, Robert (Bob), Clifford, Samuel (Sam), Leonard, and Moreland Barton; infant sister Alice Aileen; and sister Dora Shelton.

He is survived by his children, Stanton Todd Barton and wife Melanie of Dallas, TX, and Clayton Thomas Barton and wife Cindy of Arnett, OK; his step-children, Todd Atha of Arnett, OK, and Tammy Kelln of Shattuck, OK; five grandchildren, Jared Barton, Jason Barton, Heath Barton, Marc White, and Kristian White; one brother Jack Barton and wife Tresa of Neosho, MO; four sisters, Lora Bittman of Shattuck, OK, Neva Laxon of Amarillo, TX, Ima Detrixhe of Higgins, TX, and Jean Bybee of Edmond, OK; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and a host of friends.
