(Erma) Christene Miller Wilson was born Dec. 12, 1933 to Dewie Albert Miller and Helen Youlon Clark Miller. She was born at the home of her aunt and uncle, Forrest and Etheline Boal, in the Kiowa township of Roger Mills County of rural Moorewood, OK.
When Christene arrived at school age, she began at Moorewood. She cried so hard every day for a week that her mom & dad decided to let her remain at home for one more year. That turned out to be a blessing for Christene, as she unexpectedly lost her mom less than two years later. Christene became mom to her younger sister, Marlene, who was 2 1/2 yrs younger, while also learning to cook and keep house while their dad farmed and carried the mail. In fact, when they were gathering information for the 1950 census, it lists Christene as age 16 with an occupation of keeping house. The Miller family were faithful members of the Moorewood Baptist Church where Christene herself was saved and baptized at a young age.
After Christene finished 8th grade at Moorewood, she had to transfer to Leedey for high school. That was a scary adventure for a little Moorewood girl. Being a beautiful little brunette, she caught the eye of her new Leedey classmate Jimmy Wilson. They quickly became high school sweethearts and then began a relationship that lasted for 73 years.
On May 18, 1951, Jimmy and Christene secretly got married at her Moorewood home with just a few close relatives and the preacher (Brother Jim Garner) early in the afternoon. After the ceremony, they went to Leedey and went through their graduation ceremony that night without telling any of their friends of the marriage, because Christene was sure that Jimmy's friends would put them through a not so pleasant shivaree. Jimmy and Christene left immediately after graduation on their honeymoon.
In 1953 the drought had made it hard on farmers, so Jimmy & Christene, along with first born Joyce, moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming where Jimmy worked with his two uncles who owned a business there. When the drought was over, they returned to Leedey to farm & ranch.
Christene was a wonderful farmers wife. Lots of days she worked right along side Jimmy. When there were crops to get out or cattle to work, Christene was never happy just taking a sandwich to the field for the workers. She always fixed huge meals and everyone had a great jug of brewed Lipton ice tea wrapped in newspaper to keep the ice from melting. There was always dessert too. Christene was a great seamstress also, making most of the family's clothing. One of her high points of sewing was winning at the county fair with a dress she had made for Joyce, then got to enter it in the state fair, winning a ribbon there also. She also crocheted & did embroidery work. Christene was a dedicated member of the Canadian Extension Club for many years and thoroughly enjoyed all the meetings and socials. Christene was a member of the First Baptist Church where she had taught Sunday School.
In their early retirement, Jimmy and Christene had travel trailers and enjoyed extended stays at many places. Branson, Raton & Ruidoso were some of their favorites. When Remington Park opened, they were regulars there for several years.
Christene was very thoughtful and always remembered all the birthdays and special occasions. She made books for her own three kids that had all the important family dates listed so they too would remember. She always remembered the sick by sending get well cards from her personally, also from her Sunday School class and the Canadian club.
Christene passed away September 3, 2026. She was preceded in death by her parents Dewie and Helen Miller, her husband Jimmy Wilson, her daughter Linda Ommen, her son Mike Wilson and her great grandson Jadan Mark Haney.
Christene is survived by her daughter Joyce Marlene Johnson and husband Red, sister Marlene Chapman, son in law Roger Ommen, daughter in law Jerri Wilson, grandchildren Mark and Jada Haney, Matt and Leslie Haney, Jo and Justin Ediger, Rocky Ommen and Khoa Nguyen, Ryan and Tessa Ommen, Nicole Wilson, Levi and Eimear Wilson; great grandchildren Taya & Cameron Page, Matalyn & Clay Brooks, Kolt & Allie Haney, Keaton & Brook Haney, Jonah White, Hannah White, Ultan Wilson, Ronan Wilson, Ryleigh Woody, Harley Woody, Giannah Smithey, Tinley Ommen, Lylah Ommen; great great grandchildren Jerek & Ava Page, Blakelynn & William Brooks, Lynnlee & Dawson Haney and Everly Haney who will be here in just a few weeks.
