IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Chuck
Mcphail
June 27, 1950 – December 9, 2021
The world became a little quieter on December 9, 2021 as Charles Augustus Mcphail, known as Chuck, passed away in his beloved home in Mutual, Oklahoma. Chuck is survived by his wife, Julie Cloud; his children, Christi Brown (Spouse: Lee Brown) and Canda Gierach (Spouse: Lucas Gierach); and treasured grandchildren: Lakota Brown, Karlie Brown, Elaina Gierach, Jason Gierach, Charles (Charlie) King, and Chase King. He was preceded in death by his baby son, C.A. (Charles Augustus Mcphail Jr) who left to be an angel in 1985.
On June 27, 1950, Chuck came into the world as the largest baby born at the time in Ashland, KS. The youngest of 6, he spent his youth making mischief and playing football for the Ashland Bluejays. After graduating in 1968, he joined the Air Force where he spent time in Vietnam and across various bases, including in Shreveport, Louisiana. Chuck came into the roller rink business through his first wife, Rhonda's, family. In the 1970s, Chuck helped build and manage 17 rinks across 5 states. Throughout his lifetime, he had his hand in flooring, fixing up, building, or running countless roller rinks; and in that time impacted thousands of lives of employees and patrons. While he dabbled in other ventures, he always returned to the rink business that he loved best. The sound of Chuck's voice on the mic at the skating rink announcing "all skate!" or a rousing game of green light go, or seeing him out doing the jitterbug will forever be missed.
Chuck's wife, kids, and grandkids fondly remember so many things about "Grandad." His biscuits and gravy may clog an artery, but it's worth it. Also: mountainous meat pizzas, slathered barbecue chicken, fried pork chops with fried potatoes and amazing gravy - always served with an entire canister (or 3) of Morton's salt. The kids especially will miss raiding Grandad's candy stash, with a variety of delicious treats for any sweet tooth.
We'll miss hearing and rehearing his multitudes of stories told masterfully, like the ghost stories from the house in Louisiana, how he jumped 27 feet to save Christi from a pool, or finding Canda looking like a racoon after using a magic marker as makeup. His stories were always colorful in language, overly detailed, and never shied away from topics most people would deem inappropriate for the dinner table. Most stories ended with a great belly laugh that can never be forgotten.
We will also begrudgingly miss his non-stop teasing, laughing maniacally upon playing a draw 4 in Uno, and his "spankin' hand." Chuck skated to his own beat in life; and love him or not, he always made an impression. Chuck's greatest lessons taught are to love God and focus on the positive, because "life is what you make it."
