Obituary

Clayton Carl Cole, son of Peter Irvine Cole and Alice Mae (Soliday) Cole was born June 11, 1927 near Bloomfield, Dewey County, OK.  He passed from this life November 17, 2021 in Vici, OK. at the age of 94 years, 5 months and 6 days.  Clayton grew up around the Vici community.  At the age of 13, he lived with his Uncles Vernon Cole and Murl Cole families while his father, Pete, served in the army.  He became a good helper on the farms and learned to drive a tractor, milk cows and haul ensilage.  He joined boys, cousins and friends in the neighborhood often at night to hunt fur animals which they sold hides for income.  He attended Bloomfield School at a young age and graduated at Pleasant Ridge School District 28 from the eighth grade.  Later he completed his formal education by obtaining his GED.  He served his country honorably during World War II toward the end of the war.  After returning home he met Eva Marie Payne through her friendship with cousin Loreta.  After a time of courtship, they were united in marriage at Canadian, TX. on Christmas Eve in 1947.  Since Clayton's uncles and aunts of the Cole relatives resided in Delta, CO. they moved into a small apartment there with little possessions.

Four children blessed their home.  Carl Martin was born in 1949 in Delta, CO.  Clayton then found employment in Woodward, OK. where Julia Mae was born in 1950 and Darrell Len was born in 1951.  Lastly, Donna Marie was born in 1953 in Amarillo, TX.  The family resided there for many years.  Clayton was employed at the Pantex Plant as a forklift operator and was a member of the Pantex Fire Department.  He also worked at Golden Spread Redi-Mix Concrete in Amarillo.  After living in a small home, they were determined to save and buy material ahead for a nicely planned larger home they would build themselves for the family.  It became a lovely large brick home eventually.  Upon both retirements, Clayton and Eva Marie moved back to Woodward, OK. where they had many more years of enjoyment and keeping busy.

Clayton had a God given talent as his special interest was in carpentry work, whether building or remodeling.  He was always happy with a hammer and nails in his hands.  He was a very industrious person who studied books,  liked to fix cars and anything fixable.  He loved to make their home in Woodward attractive and designed fixtures and arrangements of plants in their front and back yard which won city front yard awards.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Mae Cole, his beloved wife, Eva Marie Cole, son Carl Martin Cole, daughter Julia Mae Hunt and his siblings, Charles Edward and Evelyn Jean and other loved ones.

Clayton is survived by his children, Donna Oblinger and husband Jim of Amarillo, TX. and Darrell Cole and wife Rudena of Woodward, OK.  Five grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, a sister Lois Ruth Cunningham, numerous cousins and other family and friends.
