Dalton James Shryock, first child of Brad and Dustie Shryock, was born March 8, 1991, in Alva, Oklahoma. He was raised in Mutual, Oklahoma, where his roots ran deep—in the land, the cattle, the classroom, and the people who knew him best. As a child, Dalton was full of joy, along with a fierce protectiveness of his “babies”–his twin sisters Kadie and Kelsey.
Dalton attended Sharon-Mutual Public Schools, where he was known for his strength, work ethic, and determination. Dalton loved reading from a young age, he had a thirst for knowledge and was always reading and learning. A standout athlete, he made school history as the first-ever state powerlifting champion at Sharon-Mutual and was a member of the 8man all-star football team and K101 Classic Bowl. Dalton and Brad were the first ever 2nd generation Father-Son duo to play in the K101Classic Bowl football game. After graduating high school, Dalton continued his education at Oklahoma State University, earning his Bachelor of Science in Animal Science.
After graduating, Dalton returned home to Mutual and became a teacher and coach at Sharon-Mutual High School. He took great pride in working with students, mentoring young people, and giving back to the school that helped shape him. Teaching and coaching were extensions of the best parts of who Dalton was—steady, encouraging, and deeply invested helping others.
Outside the classroom, Dalton was most at home on the ranch. He worked cattle alongside his parents as part of the Shryock family operation, Shryock Land and Cattle, running Red Angus cattle and continuing a family tradition rooted in hard work and tradition. Dalton also had a deep love for the outdoors, particularly hunting and trapping. He was known for his skill, patience, and appreciation for the land. One of his most cherished recent moments was trapping a beaver and gifting the hide to his grandfather—a gesture that spoke to Dalton’s thoughtfulness, pride in his skills, and love for family.
Dalton was a member of Mutual Community Church, where faith and fellowship were important parts of his life.
Dalton was the proud father of three daughters, who were the center of his world: Annabelle Shryock and Evangeline Shryock, whom he shared with, Lauren Putthoff, and Elizabeth Shryock, whom he shared with Viviane Shryock. Dalton always made time to play with his girls and shared his love for reading by reading them bedtime stories. His life was shaped by the roles he held as a father, son, brother, teacher, rancher, and coach.
Dalton is preceded in death by his grandfather, Gary Shryock.
Those left to cherish his memory include his parents, Brad and Dustie Shryock of Mutual, Oklahoma; his sisters, Kelsey Bates and husband Tim, and their daughter Tinsley, of Mutual, Oklahoma; Kadie Kline and husband Logan, and their children Adilyn and Ryder, of Woodward, Oklahoma; his daughters Annabelle and Evangeline Shryock of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Elizabeth Shryock of Woodward, Oklahoma; Grandparents John and Carol Baird of Sharon, Oklahoma, Grandmother Joy Shryock of Mutual, Oklahoma; along with extended family, friends, students, athletes, and community members whose lives were shaped by knowing Dalton.
