Darrell Gene Cox was born on the family home place west of Union City, Oklahoma on October 30, 1929, to Clarence L. and Oneita (Eaton) Cox. He passed from this life, at his home, on July 22, 2007, at the age of 77.

Darrell grew up in the El Reno, Oklahoma area. He attended Green Valley Grade School and Riverside School during his elementary years and graduated from the El Reno High School.

Darrell was united in marriage to Carla May Barby, and they became the loving parents to Kary, Terrina, and Geannei. They made their home in Beaver, Oklahoma until moving to Wichita, Kansas in 1953, and later moving to Rosston, Oklahoma in 1959. Carla May passed away in 1974.

On October 25, 1976 Darrell and Jo Ann Branstetter (Cramer) were joined in marriage at El Reno, Oklahoma. Darrell became the loving step-father to JoAnn's three children, Ray, Sandra Jo, and Gina. They were also privileged to raise their two granddaughters, Jody and Laura. They made their home in Rosston until 1997 when he retired and they moved to Woodward.

Darrell spent his life ranching and farming. He also was a knowledgeable mechanic. He was a charter member of the National Cattlemen's Association and the Oklahoma Cattlemen's Association serving 13 years as Chairman of the Brand and Theft Committee. Darrell was the recipient of many awards and plaques for his work and dedication to the association and the Pony Express.
When not working, Darrell liked to spend his leisure time bowling, boating and water skiing. He also enjoyed going to bluegrass music festivals and especially church dinners and visiting. He took special pleasure in driving his 1930 Model A Ford car about town.

Darrell was baptized into the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn on October 6, 2005, at the age of 75 years and 11 months. He was a faithful member of the Woodward church.

Those preceding him in death are his parents, C.L. and Oneita Cox; by first wife, Carla May Cox; by step-daughter, Gina Currier; by brother, Harold E. Cox; and by sister-in-law, Terry Cox.

Those remaining to cherish his memory are his wife, JoAnn of the home; children, Kary Cox and wife Paul of Bartlesville, OK, Terrina Rieann of Houston, TX, Geannei Butler and husband Steve of Houston, TX, Ray Cramer of Floris, OK, Sandy Reidle of Woodward, OK; step son-in-law, Tommy Currier and wife Jan of Tulsa, OK; by brother, Virgil Cox; by sister-in-law, Magdalena Cox; by grandchildren, Laura Cramer, Justin Cox, Jody Brown and husband Leo, Jarrod Shuey and wife Jennie, Travis Cox and wife Stephanie, Rellana Reidle, Kierra Dickey, Callie Currier, and Jesse Currier; and seven great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, many cousins and a host of friends.
