It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Darrell Ray Hunter, who passed away on May 12, 2023, in Vici, Oklahoma, at the age of 84.

Darrell was born on February 4, 1939, in Bloomfield, Oklahoma, to Cecil Lindon Hunter and Hilda Marie (Myers) Hunter. He attended grade school at Sunnyside and high school at Vici. On August 14, 1958, he married Shirley Patricia Charboneau in Perryton, Texas. Together, they raised three children: Donna, Rocky, and Melanie.

Darrell lived in Woodward, Guymon, and Vici, Oklahoma, during his lifetime. He worked for OG&E for 13 years and PTCI for 26 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, softball, basketball, golf, farming, ranching, and bowling. Darrell was an avid OU fan. Darrell was baptized and a member of the First Baptist Church and served as a deacon.

Darrell, known to his friends as Bud, will be greatly missed by his family and friends. His kindness, generosity, and love for life touched the lives of everyone he knew. We are comforted in knowing that he is now reunited with his loved ones who passed before him and that he is at peace.

Darrell is preceded in death by parents Cecil and Hilda Hunter, sister and brother-in-law Joyce and Earl Wayland, and brother-in-law Roy Ball.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years Shirley Hunter, children Donna Bergner and husband Robert of Hooker, OK, Rocky Hunter and wife Kim of Guymon, OK, and Melanie Hunter of Vici, OK; brother Elvin Hunter and wife Ann; sister Arnetta Ball; six grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, many cousins and a host of friends.
