Obituary

The family has asked that the church service be attended by immediate family only.  The public is encouraged to attend the graveside portion of the furneral service at 3pm at the Red Star Cemetery.

Delbert Lavern Meyer departed this life on November 27, 2020 at the age of 94 and a half.  Delbert was born on April 9, 1926 in Roger Mills County to Arnold and Katherine (Switzer) Meyer.

Delbert married Gertie Faye Stroud in Cheyenne, OK January 1950.  In that union was born Deborah Meyer and Kathy (Meyer) Dodson.  After the passing of his wife Gertie Faye, Delbert married Wanda (Owens) Wohl July 1972 in Leedey, OK.  With this marriage Delbert was blessed with three more children Kenneth Wohl, Donald Wohl, and Lometa (Wohl) Lee.

Delbert made a life from farming and ranching at a young age.  He could always be found building fence, welding, or working on the farm.  Delbert enjoyed hunting and fishing.  If there was a season for it, he was loading the dogs up and hunting it.  The passion for the land carried on until he was called home.

You could guarantee if you looked in the bleachers at a game you would see Grandpa smiling with pride.  He was his grandchildren's biggest fan.  He was very active in his community being a founding member of the Leedey Rural Fire Department and being on the Red Star Cemetery board.  His most important contribution is the family that he loved, mentored, and guided who will always carry a piece of him with them.  The continued contribution they make will always be a reminder and tribute of the great man that helped shaped them.

Delbert is preceded in death by his parents Arnold and Katherine (Switzer) Meyer, brother Vernon Meyer, two sisters Vada and Verna Fern Meyer, wife Gertie Faye and wife Wanda, son Kenneth Wohl, granddaughter Jaci Basler, and son-in-law David Lee.

He is survived by his brother Dale Meyer of Phelan, CA; his children Deborah Meyer of the home, Kathy and husband Gary Dodson of Leedey, OK, Donald and wife Gail Wohl of Butler, OK, Lometa Lee of Arapaho, OK and daughter-in-law Tarena Wohl of Edmond, OK.  Also left to carry on his legacy is 12 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren and a host of family and friends.
