Obituary

Derrick Allen Rossiter was welcomed into the loving arms of his parents, the late Gary Allen and Cara Ann Sweet Rossiter, on July 5, 1993 in Elk Grove, California. His young life was tragically cut short when he passed from this life on July 4, 2009.

Derrick was a quiet yet spirited youngster who captivated the hearts of everyone he was around. He became the proud big brother of Mikayla with whom he shared a special bond. While Derrick's early years were filled with new experiences and lots of laughter, he endured heartache at the tender age of eight with the passing of his father. Derrick's struggles were great during those times, but God soon blessed Derrick and his family when his dad Toby Baker and sister Aspen came into their lives. Derrick was then blessed with the arrival of four sisters: McKenzie, Sara, and twins Leah and Lilly. Derrick loved being a big brother and all his younger sisters say he is the best big brother a little sister could ask for.

Growing up, Derrick loved the outdoors, especially fishing, hunting and working with his granddads. Derrick completed his freshman year of high school this past May. He was active in school, participating in basketball, band, choir and FFA. Basketball played an important part in Derrick's high school careeer, with one of his favorite memories being from this past basketball season when his team won the District championship. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and they held a special place in his heart. Derrick attended the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn in Vici, Oklahoma and enjoyed spending time with the young kids.

Derrick was preceded in death by his dad, Gary Allen Rossiter. He is survived by his parents, Toby and Cara Baker of Vici, OK; six loving sisters: Mikayla, Aspen, McKenzie, Sara, Leah and Lilly, all of Vici, OK; grandparents: David and Barbara Sweet of Olathe, Colorado; Allen and Floye Rossiter of Cushing, Oklahoma; and Connie and Betty Baker of Vici, OK, great grandmother Betty Yearous of Ft. Morgan, Colorado; several aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of brethren and friends.
