Deryl Dean Lamunyon's Obituary

Deryl Dean Lamunyon was born on August 19, 1924 to Alfonzo Ellsworth and Elverda Ellen (Brooner) Lamunyon on the family farm SW of Laverne, OK. Deryl went to be with his Lord and family on October 16, 2009 at the age of 85 following a short illness.

Deryl was raised on the family farm and attended all of his school years at Laverne, OK, where he graduated with the class of 1942. After graduation, Deryl tried to enlist in the U.S. Army, but was refused due to an issue with his arm. This was very painful to Deryl as his brother Wallace and several of his buddies were called into action and he could not serve with them. Deryl worked on the family farm and had various jobs while in Laverne. Then while attending a revival service, Deryl met his wonderful wife Edith Haines. Deryl and Edith were married on January 14, 1954 in Laverne, OK. Deryl and Edith were blessed with two children, Joe Fon and Deryla Jean. After getting married, Deryl and Edith lived in Laverne, OK, Follett, TX and Darrouzett, TX, before moving to the Logan, OK community and living on Edith's family farm. While living on the farm, Deryl served on the Board of Education for Garrett Schools. He was also employed by the Beaver CO-OP and Beaver lumber yard, as well as, driving a school bus and working for other farmers in the area.

Deryl was a wonderful dad, granddad and great-granddad. Being with all his kids was a great thrill and high priority in his life. He made sure to always attend all of Deryla's music activities all through elementary, Jr. and Sr. High and college. He continued to support his daughter by attending concerts and programs at the various schools where Deryla taught. Deryla meant the world to her dad. Missing any of his grandkids ballgames was not an option if he could help it. He was always a great provider of fun and wisdom to his family.

Deryl enjoyed playing dominoes with all his friends here in Arnett and felt honored to be the only man in the group. After losing Edith on their 55th wedding Anniversary, the Arnett Senior Citizens became a place that helped fill a lonely void and brought great joy to Deryl's life. Also, riding his golf cart around town was something that gave Deryl a feeling of independence. However, he would rather have been chauffeured around by his grandkids or Reba Finley and D.J. Macom.

Deryl was a man of faith who gave his life to Christ while in his 20's. He was a member of the 1st Christian Church, Arnett, OK where he was active in Sunday School and Wednesday prayer meeting. Church was also a place where he would brag on his grandsons and recently his GREAT grandson.

Deryl was a kind and gentle man who never had a cross thing to say about anyone. He was loved by all who knew him and will be missed greatly. There is no doubt in our hearts that he is in the presence of God where he is singing the hymns that he loved.

Deryl was preceded in death by his parent's, his wife Edith, his six year old son Joe Fon, his sisters Aileene Black and Leona Hicks and his brother James Wallace Lamunyon and one nephew, Glen Black.

Deryl is survived by his daughter Deryla Jean Royal and husband Richard of Arnett, grandson's Rusty Royal and fiancé Alison Hayes of Edmond, OK, Ryan Royal and wife Jessica of Medford, OK, Ross Royal of Arnett and his great-grandson Reese Joe Royal of Medford, OK. Three nephews, Marvin Black, Stanley Black, Jimmy Hicks and one niece Reba Hicks, a host of cousins and other relatives and many friends.

Memorials can be made to the 1st Christian Church of Arnett, or to the charity of your choice.
