Obituary

Dychie Dewayne Turner 88, of Woodward, Oklahoma passed from this life Tuesday, September 23, 2014 in Nashville, TN with family by his side. Dewayne was born on January 12, 1926 in Thomas, OK to Audrey Derrial and Margart Lenor (Taylor) Turner.

Dewayne spent his childhood days in Vici, OK starting his education in a country school south of Vici. As a freshman he transferred to Vici Public School. During his junior year he was drafted and began serving his country in WWII. His duty started August 31, 1944 in the United States Army then transferred to the Air Force of the United States where he served on the island of Guam as an air traffic controller and received the rank of Staff Sergeant. On December 6, 1952 he was honorably discharged.

On April 27, 1947 Dewayne married classmate Carolyn Cashmere Vincent. They were blessed with 61 years together before Carolyn's passing on December 9, 2007. To this union four children were born, Marcia, Denise, Mark and Craig. The family lived in Vici, OK, Oklahoma City, OK, Sunray, TX, before Dewayne's work as an Oil Field Production Manager returned them to Woodward, OK.

Dewayne loved playing cards, dominos, visiting with neighbors, reading western books, the Dallas Cowboys and the Oklahoma Sooners. But his greatest joy was his grandchildren! He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. In November of 2005, Dewayne was baptized at the family farm by Rev. Bennie Waller and became a member of the United Methodist Church in Vici.

Dewayne was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn, parents, A.D. and Maggie Turner, brother's Paul Davis and Cecil Turner and sister Nada Rathbun.

He is survived by his children, Marcia Ryan of Nashville, TN, Denise Barnes of Nashville, TN, Mark Turner of Colleyville, TX and Craig Turner of Cloudcroft, NM; sister Leta Padgett of Lefors, TX; sister-in-law; Peggy Davis of Laverne, OK; 11 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 4 nieces, 9 nephews, other family and many, many friends.
