Obituary

Dixie Jean Carter, born on January 25, 1942, in Des Moines, Iowa, peacefully passed away at the age of 81 in the Vici Nursing Home in Vici, Oklahoma. She was the second child of Willard and Vivian (Bickle) Hotze. In 1944, the family relocated to Oakland, California, and later settled in Hayward, California.

In 1957, Dixie embarked on the journey of marriage with Richard Cooper, and together they welcomed a daughter named Maryann in 1958. In 1960, she found love again with Walter Daugherty, leading to the birth of a son, Ricky, in 1961, and a daughter, Janice, in 1967. In 1974, Dixie entered into a lifelong commitment with Leonard Carter.

Dixie was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since 1991, finding solace and community in her faith. Her life was marked by love, commitment, and the joy of family.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Leonard Carter, daughter and son in law, Janice Hansen and George, her parents Willard and Vivian Hotze, step-mother Johanna Hotze, and brothers Arne Hotze and Danny Hotze.

Dixie leaves behind a legacy of love through her surviving children: Mary Ann LaMear and Bud of Spokane, Washington and Ricky Daugherty and Linda of Atascadero, California. She is also remembered by her sister, Delores Ross of Fremont, California.

Dixie's memory lives on through her cherished grandchildren: Misty Lachelle and Terry LaMear of Spokane, Washington; Ricky, Amber, Mindy, Courtney, and Chris Daugherty of Atascadero, California; and Christopher Carter, Charlene Petrea, Nicole Petrea and Robert Cervantes of West Plains, Missouri and Karissa Gordon of Elk City, Oklahoma.

In celebrating Dixie's life, let us remember the warmth of her love, the strength of her spirit, and the enduring legacy she leaves behind. May she rest in peace, surrounded by the love she shared with her family and friends.
