Obituary

Donald Kay Mann passed peacefully from this life on October 12, 2022, surrounded by his family. He was born December 14, 1941, in Beaver, Oklahoma, to parents Forrest and Wilda (Davidson) Mann. The baby of four children, Don grew up primarily in Beaver where he attended school. On December 31, 1960, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Judy Davis, in Knowles, Oklahoma. They bought a Sinclair Station in Beaver and ran it while they were first married. Don was baptized into the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn on June 6, 1961, in Beaver by Brother Harvey Randall. The happy couple soon welcomed children Marquita, Travis, and Stephanie to their family.

In 1967, Don and Judy's family moved to Anchorage, Alaska, where Don worked as a crane superintendent on an offshore rig and helped build the Alaska pipeline on the north slope. During that time, he made the cover of the Rowan magazine, being the first to test the "walrus suit", by jumping off an oilfield platform 113 ft into freezing water. In 1969, Don competed in the first Midnight 600 Snowmachine Race from Anchorage to Fairbanks over the frozen Yukon River in subzero temperatures. While living in Alaska, Don seized every opportunity to hunt its big game including moose, wolf, caribou, and wolverine.

Don would have a lifelong love for Alaska, but the time had come to move the family back to Oklahoma, so in 1970 they settled in Enid. He worked for Don & Ken's Mobile Homes for a short time before moving to Woodward, Oklahoma, and opening Longhorn Mobile Homes. There they welcomed a fourth child, Forrest. The family bought five acres of land and moved to Sharon, Oklahoma, where their fifth child, Kristal, was born. The family was well known in the Sharon-Mutual Community with all five of their children graduating from school there.

Don's entrepreneurial spirit and hard work ethic wasn't satisfied yet as he wanted to create something that could be passed on as a legacy of his hard work. Don started Mann's Rental in Woodward in 1982 and would later open a location in Enid, both of which are owned and operated by Don's sons as a family business. Because of his work ethic, Don was appointed by Governor Keating to serve on the state Career Tech board for several years to share his unique viewpoint.

Don and Judy loved to travel and enjoyed over 40 cruises in their lifetime. Judy operated the Travel Service of Woodward for many years, allowing them to literally travel and make friends all over the world. They were certified scuba divers and took many friends on diving trips around the world.

In 1992, Don and Judy decided to build their forever home on the land east of Vici that had been owned by Judy's family for over 100 years. This build was truly a labor of love for Don as he painstakingly made every spindle for their staircase and all other woodwork. After retirement, Don and Judy bought a cabin in Eagle, Alaska, right on the Yukon River. They loved taking annual trips up there, always hauling new supplies and materials to improve their cabin or the cabins of their neighbors. Don had a love for adventure and enjoyed nothing more than for people to tell him he couldn't do something so he could prove them wrong.

Many friends, brethren, and members of the community came to know Don because he would just "show up". If he saw someone stuck in a project that was bigger than expected or could use some extra help to get the job done, he would show up. He would give his experience and skills running equipment for many who couldn't afford to have it hired done. Don loved drinking coffee at the cafe in Seiling each morning. He always loved to sing and bought a karaoke machine when the grandkids were small. This love for music grew into many miles traveled to play instruments and record music with friends.

Don is preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Billy Mann, Bobby Mann, and Norma Jean Leatherman; son-in-law, Randy Seifried; infant grandchildren, Adam Seifried and Aspen Daniel; and infant great-grandson, Maverick Wittman.

He is survived by his loving wife of almost 62 years, Judy of Vici, OK; children, Marquita Seifried of Oklahoma City, OK,  Travis and wife Chris Mann of Sharon, OK, Stephanie Castor of Agra, OK, Forrest and wife Jeanne Mann of Drummond, OK, and Kristal and husband Doug Daniel of Martinsville, IN; grandchildren, Andy Seifried, Tyler Seifried, John Seifried, Amber and husband Tyler Wittman, Logan and wife Lacy Mann, Ethan Mann, Seth Mann, Riley and wife Denise Castor, Erica and husband Jarred Fox, Kate Mann, Lexi Mann, Cort Mann, Ashlynn Chapman and husband Andrew, Zane Daniel, and Beau Daniel; eleven great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
