Obituary

Donnie Ray Ferrell, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on May 18, 2024, in Woodward, OK, at the age of 85. Born on March 30, 1939, in Chickasha, OK, to Pearl H. and Olive Grace (Hodges) Ferrell, Donnie grew up in the Woodward community where he attended the Nazarene church and was baptized at the age of 10.  He received his formal education in the Woodward Public school system before moving to Pampa, Texas. He proudly enlisted in the U.S. Navy on January 23, 1958, serving aboard the USS Lexington. During his service, he attained the rank of HS-2 and was awarded a Good Conduct Medal. Donnie was honorably discharged on January 5, 1962, and returned to reside in Woodward, OK

On September 14, 1964, Donnie married Vinia (Loucks) Cosgrave in Canadian, TX. Through this union, Donnie gained three sons, Roy, Robert, and Richard Cosgrave, and a daughter, Renha, raising them as his own. In 1965, the family moved to Enid, OK, where Donnie was employed by Westinghouse. Their home was further blessed with a son, Russell, and a daughter, Roberta.

In 1969, the family returned to Woodward, OK. and Donnie worked as a machinist and welder for Hodges Trucking for 20 years before being employed at the Terra plant, now CF Industries, until his retirement. Known as a jack of all trades, Donnie was a member of the National Rifle Association, the Woodward Gun Club, the VFW, and the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, going to dragstrip races and bowling. Notably, he bowled with the pros in 1960.

Donnie was preceded in death by his parents, Pearl and Olive Ferrell, his brother, and two sisters and other loved ones. He is survived by his devoted wife, Vinia Ferrell of Woodward, OK, his children, Russell Ferrell of Woodward, OK, Roberta Ferrell of Sharon, OK, Roy Cosgrave of Woodward, OK, Robert Cosgrave of Woodward, OK, Renha Reeves of Woodward, OK, and Richard Cosgrave and his wife Jane of Tuttle, OK. He also leaves behind nineteen grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren, one aunt, two uncles, six nieces, fourteen nephews, and numerous other relatives and friends who will cherish his memory.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
