Obituary

On July 7, 1956, Donnie William Randall was welcomed by his parents, Harvey and Irene Randall, and his older siblings, Deanna, Inez, Virgie, and Cecil.  Being the kid brother who grew up during tough times in a farming family, Donnie, at a very young age, developed a strong affection for farming and a keen understanding of machinery and equipment.  He spent his childhood working beside his father and Cecil, his hero, in construction and spending time with his best friends: his nieces and nephews. Donnie enjoyed riding motorcycles, playing baseball, swimming in the stock tank, roller skating, and everything else country life had to offer.  He attended Vici School and graduated with the class of 1974.

After six years of courtship and saving dimes in a longneck jar to buy a wedding ring, Donnie asked his sweetheart, Elra Turner, to share their future together.  Knowing she couldn't live without such a special man, they began their life together on June 5, 1983.  To this happy union, two children were born: Mark and Molly.  Donnie absolutely adored Mark and Molly, and all that he did reflected the incredible love he had for them.  Donnie was the most patient and loving husband and dad; never one to raise his voice and always able to bridle his tongue.  Donnie's greatest joy was spending time with his family, and they spent hours and hours playing and singing gospel and bluegrass music, camping, tinkering in the shop, and just spending time together visiting.  He loved to reminisce about his childhood and his summers spent on harvest.

Donnie was a man of many talents, including metal lathe work, equipment operation, mechanical engineering, and playing musical instruments.  His expertise ran the gamut, and his family and friends depended on him for a variety of needs.  The Randall family and all their spouses knew they were very special to Donnie, and everyone benefited from his generously shared time, knowledge, craftiness, and sincere love.   We all relied on him so much that "Call Donnie" was usually the answer to all of our problems and questions.  If it was broken, odds were Donnie could fix it.  Donnie's skill set enabled him to fabricate custom parts for equipment and the Iochem plant, where he was employed for nearly 30 years.  Not a day will pass that we won't want to ask him for his help and expertise; Donnie will be sincerely missed that's for sure.  What we wouldn't give to hear and see that red pickup with the John Deere plate driving up to our rescue!  Donnie was bigger than life to us and really was our hero.

Donnie had the most giving and pure heart. In retirement, he provided full care for Elra during her extended illness, never growing weary and so willing to change his daily routine to spend as much time with Elra as God granted them.  Donnie was always willing to help anyone in need using his own resources and time to try and make others' lives better.  Many of his own projects were neglected as he was a man who put others' needs above his own; no matter how busy he was, he always had time to help.  A person's time is the most precious gift one can ever give, and Donnie shared his time so freely, never expecting anything in return.  Although he was a man of few words at times, he shared his love with everyone through his endless acts of kindness.  He never had a bad word to say and truly loved without judgment, always looking for the good in people.  He had the friendliest demeanor and never met a stranger.

Donnie was a faithful servant of Jesus Christ and was an active member in the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn, where he served as a Deacon.  His meek and calm nature put others at ease, which made him a friend to many.  Donnie lived a Holy life as reflected by his actions and all he was; a great example to everyone.

Donnie is preceded in death by his loving wife, Elra; his parents, Harvey and Irene Randall; and his family, Deanna and Leland McLain, Clyde Gregory, Garvin Morris, Cecil and Connie Randall, Gene Turner, and Jackie Boedecker.

He is survived by his son, Mark Randall; daughter, Molly Gardner and husband Brett; sisters, Inez Gregory and Virgie Morris; mother-in-law, Ann Turner; brother-in-law, Melvin Boedecker and wife Sonja; cherished nieces and nephews; aunts, uncles, and a host of friends and loved ones.
