IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Doris Jean
(Roper) Barnett
January 17, 1931 – December 5, 2024
Doris Jean Barnett began her earthly journey on January 17, 1931, in Fort Worth, Texas, and completed her journey in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on December 5, 2024, at the age of 93. She was the cherished daughter of Fred L. and Eva (Franklin) Roper and grew up on the family farm north of Arnett, Oklahoma, alongside her siblings Kenneth, David, Marjorie, and Virginia.
Jean attended Arnett Public Schools, where she graduated as a proud twelve-year student. On September 4, 1949, she married the love of her life, Orville Lee "Jack" Barnett, in Arnett. Together, they built homes in Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma while raising six children: Jackie, Johnny, Jeanetta, Mary Jean, Cynthia, and Sally.
Jean was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She worked in retail and as a secretary to the Ellis County Commissioners until her retirement. Her faith was central to her life, and she was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church in Arnett, where she especially enjoyed helping with the Wednesday youth meals.
Jean's heart for service shone brightly as a member of the Pink Lady Auxiliary, where she volunteered at the Shattuck hospital. Her dedication to her community earned her the honor of being named Arnett's Outstanding Citizen in 2021. Jean's passions included attending school sporting events, flower gardening, solving word puzzles, and cherishing time with her family and friends.
Her memory will forever be treasured by her children: Jeanetta Cooper of Oklahoma City, Jackie Barnett of Woodward, Johnny Barnett and wife Mary of Tuttle, Cynthia Gonser and husband Ray of Woodward, and Sally Wayland and husband Joe of Arnett. She leaves behind thirteen grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren, as well as her brother David Roper of Blacksburg, Virginia, sister-in-law Mary Louise Barnett of Bolivar, Missouri, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Jean is preceded in death by her parents Fred and Eva Roper; her beloved husband Jack Barnett; a daughter, Mary Jean Hale and her siblings Kenneth Roper, Marjorie Wieden, and Virginia Barker, along with other loved ones who have gone before her.
Doris Jean Barnett's life was one of love, faith, and service, and she leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
