Lawrence Douglas "Doug" Nelson was born on November 24, 1944 in Clinton, OK to father Lawrence Nelson and mother Pauline (Squires) Nelson. Doug lived in Putnam, OK with his parents where he attended Putnam Public Schools and graduated with the Class of 1963. At 18, Doug left home to attend Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, OK. On July 25, 1964, Doug married the love of his life Peggy Craig in Leedey, OK. Doug joined the Navy in 1966, fighting in the Vietnam War, and was stationed in North Kingston, RI where he and Peggy were blessed with a daughter, Kelly. After fighting in Vietnam, Doug was stationed in Gulfport, MS, before finally being honorably discharged in 1968, having attained the rank of Petty Officer 2 ^nd Class. Doug then moved to Okmulgee, OK where he attended the Oklahoma State Technical Institute, and he and Peggy were blessed with a son, Stacey. Following his time at Okmulgee, Doug returned to his childhood home in Putnam, where he and Peggy were blessed with another son, Coby.

Doug was a farmer and a welder. He enjoyed collecting coins and metals, and he loved to watch the kids and grandkids play ball. Doug was a member of the Veterans Association. At the age of 31, Doug was baptized into the Baptist faith, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Seiling where he also attended, though he also attended the First Baptist Church of Taloga as well.

Doug passed from this life on April 24, 2021 in Oklahoma City, OK. Preceding him in death are his parents, Lawrence and Pauline Nelson; sister Virginia Brown, and nephew Kirby Windburn and Lynn Collins.

Doug is survived by his wife Peggy Nelson of Taloga, OK; daughter Kelly Nelson of Portland, OR; son Stacey Nelson of Portland, OR; son Coby Nelson and wife Kas of Leedey, OK; brother Joe Bob Nelson and wife Nicona of Chickasha, OK; grandkids Cale, Kloe, and Cruz Nelson; 5 nieces, 3 nephews, and a host of loved ones and friends.
