Obituary

Douglas Gerald Collins of Ninnekah, OK was born February 12, 1935 in Delta, CO to Paul and Lillian Irene (Reilly) Collins. He passed from this life March 17, 2019 at Oklahoma City, OK. He lived and attended school in Montrose, CO and graduated from Montrose High School in 1953. He was active in the ag program showing cattle and was a member of the Montrose Band.

He attended and graduated auctioneer school after high school in 1953. Doug entered the Army in 1955 and was honorably discharged in 1957 reaching the rank of Private First Class.

He worked for Union Carbide from 1957-60 in a uranium mine in Uravan Colorado before moving on to a career in sales. He sold farm equipment in Delta Colorado until 1971 when he moved to Oklahoma to sell horse trailers. He always loved trading, didn't matter if it was trailers or horses! At times Doug would have 25-30 head of trading horses around. He was a sales manager at Superior Trailers of Lindsay and then Stidham trailers of Chickasha before venturing out in his own. Around 1980 he started C Bar C trailers where he sold all kinds of trailers and partnered with Greg Charlson to manufacture trailers. Eventually he retired in 2007.

Doug married Roberta Kay Harthoorn in 1966 to which came two sons Jack Ray (Rusty) Garrett and Mark Wayne. Later on Doug and the boys moved to Chickasha until eventually moving to Ninnekah in 1978. He enjoyed jackpot team roping especially with his buddy Gene Snider. Together they won The National Old Time Ropers Association several years in a row.

He met Sheryl Cooper in 1986 and spent the remainder of his days with her on the farm in Ninnekah. He spent a good bit of his retired life camping and hunting. He and Sheryl spent a large part of the last fifteen summers in Gunnison, CO and Chama, NM fishing.

Doug was preceded in death by his father Paul and mother Lilian Irene.

He is survived by wife Sheryl of the home, sons Rusty Garrett and wife Tammy of Ninnekah, Mark Collins and wife Monica of Leedey, Dale Hill and wife Ginna of Ninnekah, Brent Hill and wife Kelley of Blanchard and Dennis Ball of Ninnekah. Grandchildren Celia, Cale and Conner Garrett of Ninnekah, Ciara Johnson and husband Dalton of Twenty-nine Palms CA, Baili Nettleship and husband Clayton of Stephenville, TX and Quincy Collins of Leedey,OK, Colton Hill and wife Tori of Syracuse, KS and Triston Hill of Stillwater,OK, Joshua Smith and wife Katie and daughter Dakoda of Putnam, CT, Kaitlin Lister and husband Jeff of Blanchard,OK, Ryann and Bella Ball of Cashion, OK. Doug is also survived by his brother Dannie L. Collins and wife Cherie of Montrose, CO and his sister Phyllis Maynard and husband Robert of Benton City, WA, plus a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
