Obituary

Douglas Allen Schoenhals took his last flight from this earth on February 18, 2025 at the age of 82. He was born to Allen and Esther (Meier) Schoenhals and spent his early years in Shattuck, OK.

Moving to the farm gave Doug a place to raise and groom steers for County and State Fairs. He was successful and had a Grand Champion steer. Airplanes were a passion of Doug's from an early age. He didn't like sports. But if he saw the airport hangar doors were open, he could run the mile in good time because Elmer Oblander or Jake Hanshu's planes could take him for a flight – and he loved it!

Douglas graduated from Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor of Science in Business. While at OSU he was part of the Flying Aggies, joined the Sigma Chi fraternity and finished the ROTC program which led to his being commissioned into the Air Force, because flying was his passion.

Douglas married Carol Marsh before being deployed to Vietnam. They had two daughters, Jennifer and Kathryn. The family lived in California where Doug flew the largest airplanes for the Air Force, the C-5. He loved flying his Piper Comanche and would offer airplane rides to anyone who was interested. He flew his family back to Shattuck every summer to visit his folks and other relatives in Oklahoma. After 20 years spent in the Air Force, Doug retired and the family moved to Shattuck.

Some medical issues caused Doug to move to be close to daughter Jennifer and family. He lived in an assisted living community where he was well loved by all.

Douglas is preceded in death by his brothers Donald Schoenhals and James Schoenhals and his parents, Allen and Esther.

He is survived by his daughter Jennifer and husband Clint Fisher; his daughter Kathryn Hirning and husband Brannon Mucke; his sister Linda White; his brother Richard Schoenhals; his grandchildren Zachary and Seth Fisher and Alex and Silver Hirning; 4 nephews and 1 niece and many cousins and relatives.

The family wants to thank all who have given support in words, deeds, prayers and love.

Airplane Doug, you will be missed by all of us!
