Obituary

Herbert Dean "Dutch" Miller was born March 19, 1940 in Las Animas, Colorado, to Groff and Irene (Downey) Miller, the second of 6 children. When Dutch was 5 years old the family moved to Oklahoma, where he started his education at Richmond Schools and finished high school at Taloga, graduating with the Class of 1958.

Dutch began working at the Taloga Times-Advocate in 1952 and continued working as an employee until he purchased the newspaper in 1982. He continued to operate the business until his death on May 23, 2010 at the age of 70. He started as a "printers devil' and worked over 50 years in the newspaper business. In 2008, Dutch received an award from the Oklahoma Press Association for being a member of their "50 Year Club".

He was the Taloga Municipal Judge for a number of years and was a retired member of the Taloga Volunteer Fire Department. Dutch also had a special fondness for children, and especially enjoyed being involved with his many nieces and nephews.

Dutch was preceded in death by his parents, Groff and Irene (Downey) Miller; sister, Jewel (Miller) Bowers; brother-in-law, Ted Rice; and brother, Danny Miller.

He is survived by sister, Norma Rice of Woodward; brothers, Irvin Miller and wife Cindy of Taloga and Curtis Miller and wife Wynelda of Guymon; sixteen nieces and nephews; 14 great nieces and nephews; and 3 great-great nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Taloga Fire and Ambulance Service.
