Obituary

Lifelong Sharon resident Dwight Donovan Halley passed from this life early Friday, October 30, 2009 at the Grace Living Center in Woodward, Oklahoma. Dwight was 91 years of age. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 2, 2009 at the North Persimmon Cemetery east of Sharon, Oklahoma.

Dwight was born September 11, 1918 near Sharon, Oklahoma to Arley and Pearl Nixon Halley. He was reared in the Sharon community, attending Sharon Public Schools. After graduating high school Dwight attended Okmulgee Technical School and Southwestern Oklahoma State University. Dwight joined the United States Army April 16, 1942. While serving in the military, he worked as a cook and held the rank of Private First Class. He was honorably discharged August 31, 1945. While stationed in San Francisco, California, Dwight met and married Rosamond Daniels February 10, 1945. The couple was blessed with 52 wonderful years together. They made their home in Sharon, Oklahoma.

Dwight was a commercial carpenter working on many area projects. While working for the (CCC) Civilian Conservation Corps he helped with the construction of the Boiling Springs State Park and was part of the crew which built the Newman Memorial Hospital. Dwight enjoyed fishing, bird hunting, attending horse races and he always enjoyed watching his grandchildren's activities. He could smile through the bad times as well as the good. Dwight was baptized at the First Christian Church and attended the First Baptist Church of Sharon.

Dwight was preceded in death by his wife Rosamond, his parents Arley and Pearl Halley, and brothers Glenwood, Victor, Jack and Harold Halley. He is survived by sister Marlene Halley Miller and husband Ronald of Woodward, Oklahoma, sister-in-laws, Hazella Halley of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Roberta Phillips of Mutual, Oklahoma, step-daughter Grace Hill of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, grandchildren Susan Orange and husband David of Buffalo, Oklahoma, and Sandra James of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, great-grandchildren Linzi Schuck and husband John of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Kuma Turner and husband C.D. of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Daniel Orange of Hydro, Oklahoma and Kelsey Orange of Buffalo, Oklahoma, six great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, other family and many dear friends.
