Obituary

Edna Maybelle Shoaf was born on July 7, 1932, at Villagreen, Colorado, to Nila M. (Stockton) and M.G. Roberts.  She passed away on January 28, 2020, at Providence Place, where she had made her home in Woodward, Oklahoma.  She spent her childhood in La Junta and Kim, CO, and graduated from Kim, CO, in 1949.

Edna attended college in Otero Junior College, La Junta, CO, where she met and married James W. "Bill" Shoaf on February 3, 1950, at Raton, NM.   She said he was a big man on campus being president of his freshman class, playing football and having a really neat car!

To this union three sons were born: Willis Gene, Sherman Andrew, and Monte G.  While raising their three sons they lived in various places including Wiley, CO, Naval Base, Panama, Gunnison, CO, Strasburg, CO, Longmont, CO, McClave, CO, Primero, CO, Manzanola, CO, Rockyford, CO, Holley, CO, Albuquerque, NM, Quemado, NM, Felt, OK, Lexington, OK, Norman, OK, Pueblo, CO and Woodward, OK.  Edna paused her education to raise her family until 1975 when she returned to complete her bachelor's degree at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, NM, in 1977.  After they moved to Lexington, OK, she attended the University of Oklahoma in Norman, OK, completing her Master's and her Doctor of Philosophy in 1983.  She was very proud of being Dr. Shoaf.

Edna loved teaching and taught English and Spanish at Norman Public Schools.  Her favorite pastime was reading.  She was a member of Phi Delta kappa since 1985.  She loved books and through the years gave many books to her grandchildren, many even signed by the authors!  Next to reading, dancing and singing was a large part of her life.  She crocheted many a doily, tablecloths, names, welcome sign with precision, even making her own patterns.

While living in Norman, Bill and Edna were both baptized.  She attended several churches throughout her life journey, but called Arnett First Baptist Church her church.  She enjoyed her Sunday school class and attended when she could.  She was proud she completed reading her One-Year Bible in 2019 and discussed it often as she read through it.

Edna was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Shoaf; mother, Nila M Goodrich & step-father, Bill; father, M.G. Roberts; sister, Dorothy M. Roberts; daughter-in-law, Merry Shoaf; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Merle & Kenneth Kingsley, George & Marge Shoaf, Ernie & Beverly Shoaf and Ada & Vern Hudgins.
