Edward Howard Smith, Jr. was born August 26, 1922 to Sarah Yoesting and Edward Howard Smith in Leedey, Oklahoma. He passed away July 21, 2010 at the age of 87 in Elk City, Oklahoma.
Edward attended Leedey Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1939. He served his country from 1942-1945 when he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corp, achieving the rank of Tech Sergeant.
Edward was united in marriage to Meryl Coulson on May 17, 1942 in Leedey, Oklahoma. To this union three sons were born, Edward H., III; James Leroy and Robert Stephen. Edward was baptized at the Leedey United Methodist Church, where he was a Sunday school teacher, Lay Leader and choir member.
Edward owned and operated the family dairy from 1967 to 2004 and for many years ran a school bus route and worked as a mechanic. He was a 32nd degree Mason, member of the American Legion, Associated Milk Producers Incorporated Director and Dairy Farmers of America Director. Edward was a loving father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Sarah Smith; wife, Meryl; son, Robert; and great-granddaughters, Karissa Renee and Katlyn Grace Hagerman. He is survived by sons, Edward H. Smith III and wife Sue of Camargo, Oklahoma and James L. and wife Joyce of Leedey, Oklahoma, nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, other family and many dear friends.
