Obituary
Edwin Perry Smith was born on June 9, 1918 to Samuel and Beulah (Apple) Smith at Arnett, Oklahoma. He passed from this life on October 10, 2008 at the Shattuck Nursing Center at the age of 90 years 4 months and 1 day.
Edwin attended school at Arnett completing the eighth grade. He was from a family of thirteen consisting of 9 brothers and 3 sisters.
Edwin married Bonnie Lucille Farris in June of 1937 at Arnett, Oklahoma. To this union three children were born, Ronald Lee, Eddie Jay and Rita Gail. Edwin and Bonnie lived in Ellis County with the exception of one year when they followed his family to Portland, Oregon. However the weather was not suitable to Edwin and they returned home.
He was an agriculture engineer that included farming, ranching and dairying for his life's work. Edwin loved the outdoors and was meticulous about his farming, never wanting any weeds. He continued working as long as was possible and spoke often of what needed to be done.
Edwin enjoyed hunting, fishing and coyote hunting. In his younger days he hunted coyotes on horseback. Boating and water skiing were also among his hobbies. He taught many novices to ski, pulling them behind his little red boat.
On April 24, 1984 Edwin married Flossie Boyd in Clayton, New Mexico. Edwin and Flossie made their home in Arnett until Edwin moved to the Shattuck Nursing Center in April 23, 2007. He was baptized and was a member of the Arnett Church of Christ.
His parents, his wife Bonnie Lucille, his son Ronald Lee Smith, his grandson Ryan Christian Davison, two brothers, Elbert and Ellsworth, and one sister Alberta preceded him in death.
Edwin is survived by his wife Flossie of the home in Arnett, one daughter Rita Gail LaCarde of Oklahoma City, one son Eddie J. Smith and wife Dayon of Arnett, 3 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 7 brothers and 2 sisters, nieces, nephews, other family and a large loving extended family and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held Monday, October 13, 2008 @ 2:00 p.m. at the Church of Christ in Arnett with burial following at DeBolt Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Shaw Funeral Home of Arnett. Condolences may be made at shawfuneralhome.net.
