Effie Jewell Denney, 103 year old from Dinuba, California, died May 14, 2013. Effie was born on July 4, 1909 in McKinney, Texas to Daniel Webster and Anne McClough Gray. Effie was the oldest of 13 children. Effie lived near Wynnewood, Oklahoma and attended the community public school.
In September 0f 1927 Effie married George Washington Denney in Cheyenne, Oklahoma. This union was blessed with four children: Hazel, Calvin Ray, Helen Marie and Otis Edward. They lived at Three Corners, then the Red Star community, later Leedey next Elk City, Oklahoma before moving to Stockton, California and finally Dinuba, California. Effie was a member at the local First Baptist Church in each community and enjoyed participating in their activities. Effie was a homemaker. She loved quilting, knitting and gardening.
Effie was preceded in death by her parents, Dan and Anne Gray, daughter, Helen Denney and eleven siblings.
She is survived by daughter Hazel Ferslew of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; sons, Calvin Denney and wife Mary of Leedey, Oklahoma and Otis Denney of Dinuba, California; brother Frank Gray of Perryton, Texas; 6 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 10 great great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, other family and a host of friends.
