Elzie Leroy Henexson of Camargo, passed away peacefully in the early afternoon of October 16, 2023, surrounded by family and friends.

Leroy, as he was known to all, was born on January 10, 1932, in Camargo, Oklahoma to Elzie and Edna Henexson. The family moved to various places in Texas and Oklahoma when Leroy was a child but returned to Camargo where he graduated with the Class of 1950 from Camargo High School. Leaving Camargo at the age of 18 he worked for the federal government in Washington DC, where he worked in the Pentagon, until he was drafted into the Army. On October 1, 1953, he married Shirley Irene Puffenberger of Washington DC and was blessed with four wonderful children, Terry, Gene, Deanna, and Kay. After serving his country (including a year in Japan) he returned to the DC area where he continued working for the government in developing the early stages of the computer age. All who had the privilege to know Leroy knew that he was fun-loving and enjoyed playing good-natured jokes and tricks on people, especially children. He had many interests and accomplished many things in life, which included welding (he made unique and innovative tables, windmills, etc.), guitar playing, music in general (old country music and gospel), old car restoration, leather tooling, bowling, billiards, and darts. At one point in his life, he rebuilt an old plane and rode along on its renovated maiden voyage.

His life led him from his humble beginnings in Camargo to Washington DC, Japan, Virginia, and Ohio.

He always longed to return to Camargo, which he did in 1990.

He is survived by 3 children, 3 sisters, 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Leroy will be missed by everyone whose life he touched. "… be careless."
