Obituary

Enola Kay Eggleston was born March 6, 1930, in Higgins, Texas, the daughter of John and Vada Hughes. She was the youngest of 4 siblings. Kay Passed away December 16, 2010 in the Okmulgee Memorial Hospital at the age of 80.

On October 24, 1946, she married Martin Brooks Eggleston in Ashland, Kansas after his return from World War II U.S. Army service.They made their home in Higgins until the 1947 tornado destroyed their home. Kay and Brooks moved to the Eggleston Ranch south of Bishop in Ellis County, Oklahoma. Due to failing health, they moved to Mounds, OK in 1997. Brooks passed away in 2005 after a long illness. Kay then moved to Baptist Village, an independent living facility where she had many friends and a devoted and faithful companion in her dog, Callie.

Kay took an active part in the American Agriculture Movement of the 1970's, which helped between cost and sales of U.S. farm production. She was also a member of the "Cowbelles", the women's branch of the Cattleman's Association.

Kay enjoyed being a housewife. She spent a great deal of her time as a gardening enthusiast. She grew many different varieties of flowers. Her other hobbies included playing the piano, dancing, singing, and cooking. Reading was a favorite pastime as well, enjoying novels and mysteries. What brought her the most joy however was being a devoted and loving grandmother and great-grandmother to 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Kay is preceded in death by her parents John and Vada Hughes; husband, Martin Brooks Eggleston; son, Gerald Mack Eggleston; sister, Jeannie Woodworth and brother, Gerald Mack Hughes. She is survived by her sister, Anita Ruth Detrixhe of Austin, TX; two daughters Lisa Coles of Noble, OK and Myra Karnes and husband Eugene of Higgins, TX; son, Murry Eggleston and wife Annette of Beggs, OK; seven grandchildren, Jessica, Zachary and Jordan Eggleston, Miranda Thompson and husband Nathan, Prairie Chronister and husband Scott, Brian Karnes, Rana Baker and husband Bradley; five great-grandchildren, Peyton and Lorelei Karnes, Trinity and John Ross Baker, and Sophie Chronister, also loving nieces, nephews, and many cousins.
